Ferrous prices are going to tank

I heard down 15 to 20 a ton. Now I am hearing down 50 a ton next month. Hear that sound its all your ferrous inventory spilling change onto the ground. Either way its losing steam fast. Whens it going to bottom out?

Just called my yard price went from 230 a ton for sheet iron to 220. I need to get some stuff in tomorrow as the yard will be closed for Memoral day Sat, Sun and Monday! Prices always seem to go down after Memoral Day. Summertime Blues...

Thanks for the heads up Pistone. I've been clearing out all my bins/piles since the beginning of summer, so I should be able to stockpile things for quite a while. Sheet iron dropped here $5 this week.

I have not seen a ferrous price change since some time in March. If it drops far enough for long enough, maybe some of the competition will give up and go away.

The mills are still paying above 400 a ton for prepared HMS. I expect that to drop either a little or a lot next week. All you can do is ride it out. Welcome to summer enjoy memorial day I am leaving for a short vacation can't wait to get away from the yard for a few days and away from the noise and all the **** dust. When is it gonna rain for crying out loud there must be two inches of powder dust where I work at now and the water truck doesn't even do anything for it. Sorry for the venting.

That was a perspective of the may market. June is a different animal altogether.

Pistone is a smart man. Get your scrap in when the gettin' is good. The bottom is about to fall out and it could last all summer.

What's rain? Is that the urban legend about water falling from the sky?

If prices start tanking, I'll start beating the bush that much harder. There'll be fewer people out there trying for the stuff. You'll get more for less - or free. Think about charging to take the junk. Then just just keep stockpiling - the prices will come back. And even if they don't, that means the prices for other goods and services will come down, too. I've only lost once that way. That was with several hundred pounds of aluminum I held for three years. Prices didn't go up like I figured. Still didn't lose; just didn't make as much as I figured on.

Never follow the crowd. And don't panic - think.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
