I mainly do scrapping and selling on ebay for an income. Worked 12 years in the automotive industry until that went south (literally). Not much call around here for a 50 something year old former factory worker, so I decided then that from now on I'm working for myself!
I am a career firefighter and a fire inspector, scrapping is now my third career.
First off I'm a full time father, raising a 2 year old is a job in its self.
Work full time as a paper cutter for one of the biggest names in the high School and college graduation industry, BALFOUR.
Go to school full time, majoring in business, thinking of making it a double businesses/accounting degree.but still undecided.
Have a part time gig, (as an independent contractor ) I'm in charge of cleaning for a local masonic lodge, my girlfriend and I split that work once a week.
And like a few other people I'm looking into turning my cleaning gig into a full time businesses, hope to next year expand into providing a linen service and possibly picking up another contrat or two.
I actually scrap very little, just really like the idea of it...so yeah I stay pretty busy.
I am a mom to 3 sons who all still live at home which the youngest starts first year college next month and middle starts 3'd year. I had worked for a foot Dr. for years before leaving the job to take care of my elderly grandparents in my home (one from each side) so they didn't have to go to nursing homes. Well that was some very very stressful work - combined I did it for 5 years total (no vacations) - so after they passed I decided to not re-enter the work force in a 9 to 5 I didn't think I could not stay unstressed right away lol. When my grammas old house was torn down to make way for my parents to build new they had left a lot of scarp behind. I had never heard of ''cash for scrap'' before that if you can believe it lol but my dad told me take the scrap up and I was hooked. That day a new me was born, I'm more of a tomboy than girly girl and scrapping lets out the inner me and a competitive streak I never knew existed lol! I love tools, love tearing things down, love getting dirty and greasy and love the hard work and the money it earns. I started out part time but got so hooked its all I do and I'm branching out, I'm lucky if my house gets cleaned and yard mowed any more I can't think of anything else! Food? You boys need food? I don't have time to shop or cook!!!!!!! Live on coffee and an occasional bag of jerky like I do!! :p
Sooooooo........yeah, this is full time for me.

After being in the shave ice/sno cone business for nearly ten years, I am hanging that up and going full time scrap.
A lot less stress. No baby sitting and making sure employees show up (and stay through their shift)
If I want a day off, I can. Was hard to do that with the shave ice business.
Also scrapping is far less paperwork, headaches, insurance/worksmans, and payroll.
What an amazing array of jobs we all have:) Thanks all who posted, it lets us get to know each other a bit better.
One thing we all have in common though with the scrapping is that we all like to do it to keep busy besides to make the $$$$$
Carpenter/General Contractor since 1990. Buy "Lots" of merchandise from several sources and sell on Craigslist/Ebay. First year in the last decade that I haven't coached a ice hockey team (15-18 year olds) trying to decide if I'm done or not.
The constuction biz keeps me hopping, but I'm ready to phase out and concentrate on selling and recycling metal. Every new const. job seems to come with some guys wife that has watched way to much HGTV and thinks that things can be perfectly built overnite, for next to nothing. Working on one last big job then I'm going to take Mick's approach..."when and where I want to."

Interesting to see how many of you guys were in the construction trades (or still are). I loved construction and sometimes am tempted to take on side jobs just to keep my skill set fresh and working!
Maybe I'll post an ad or 2 on craigslist and try to get me a little bit of work.

cash bottles, mow lawns, any small jobs i can get really. Not doing too bad for being 18 w/ no job... just enough cash to keep my bike and sled going
I work for a financial planning company. i started scrapping this year and have found that its all i think about when im at work. its challenging, rewarding and fun/exciting. i enjoy finding new sources and learning new techniqes. this forum has been more helpful than anything though in the last few days. thanks fellas
