Garage sale Goodies with pics

My wife loves going to garage sales and so do I. I find lots of cool stuff at a fraction of its original cost and I can usually find some scrap items. Today I managed to buy 35lbs of wire (old extention cords, computer cable etc) for $8.00, an old David Bradley chainsaw for 5 bucks (starts with starter fluid and is complete) and a foot pedal carton stapler plus a huge box of copper staples for $10.00. Owner wanted it gone! I dont know what the hell I am going to do with it, but for ten bucks.... Ill try ebay or craigslist.

Garage sales are great...i specialize in buying brass..copper staples??.. did u have a magnet handy..all of them ive seen are copper plated steel..

Dang... thought they were copper, lol. Didnt have a magnet handy, just saw the few that were still in the stapler itself.

Thanks folks. Yes, the lady I bought it from said her father owns a box manufacturing company. She laughed about the fact that was her first job and summer employment while she was out of school, assembling boxes in her fathers factory. Like I said, they wanted it gone! Ill make sure it works properly then list it. She also had a nice stainless steel h20 fire extinguisher. When I go back to pick up the stapler this week, Ill see if is still there. I think she was asking 5 bucks for it. Ill keep ya posted.

Good score, but I have my doubts of those staples being copper. Put a magnet to em.

Metal staples are plated by immersion, a light coating of copper is attracted to the iron - electromotive series of metals.

I'm with Gus. Seems a true copper staple would just bend over before it actually stapled anything together. When I've gotten shipments that had those staples it was a bit of a hassle to rip them out with pliers and they don't bend all that easy like copper would.

Garage sales seem to always deliver AL CU Brass even mix yesterday I spent $9 to make $8 profit / Profit is profit .

I love filling a box of wire at yard sales, when i offer 1 dollar, people looked shocked. I think they are surprised i am taking the trash away!

Yeah the stapler is worth some money but my fav is the David Bradley chainsaw. I knew they made the tractors but not chainsaws. I hope you are not scrapping it. I have a few old ones like that. They weigh about 20 pounds more than a new one but you can't beat the cool factor. Good scores!

That stapler would come in handy if you were to ship a big box of e-waste. The staples would hold better than tape. I wish I had one.

No not scrapping it by any means. I fell in love with it when I saw it. I have a soft spot for old stuff like this.If I can spend 4.00 on a iced coffee from a coffee shop, I can spend the extra buck for a classic. I used to work for a tree company as a kid and can remember my boss having some old saws lying around. I liked to tinker with them to see if I could get them to run. Kept me out of trouble lol.
