    Steel or Alum?

A local auction has these runway lights. I am out of town untill after the auction ends so I can not go look at them. So I will be bidding and praying.
The base I would put at steel post looks like conduit. What about the light part. Looks like it could be Alum. What do you think?

Or I could just put them down my driveway and piss off the local airport

i think you got it right. the outdoor lights i have dealt with have mostly alu housing, with some steel parts or bolts/screws. the base may even be Al, but i wouldnt count on it when trying to bid. good luck, and please let us know.

I would base my bid off of the whole fixture housing being steel.

The base of the lights look to be aluminum, the base at the bottom of the polls might be aluminum. I would like to see the ends of the cables to see what the copper looks like.

Looking like I will not be high bidder anyways. I have to figure in gas cost to pick up the pile. It is a 260 mile round trip. That is going to cost some $$ for gas in the truck to pick it all up. Shame I was not in town I would run up there in my car and check it out and see what it is made of for sure. Plus I could get an idea on weight.

I would put those on the driveway at my house. Haha.

I think cast alum, outside in the elements would hold up better than steel at the runway!

They update the auction to read "The bases and stand pipes are steel and the light fixtures appear to be aluminum. "
    Sold for $224.50
