why not just collect about 500 junked up computers, put them on a pallet with shrink wrap, then list them on an auction site? The prices they pay for those things are crazy and probably teach someone a lesson in bidding up all these lots. Make sure your disclaimer covers you too, just like in the ads "Items may not work, may have pieces missing, no warranty, purchase as-is". Just put a warning out to SMF members not to buy

Around 10 pallets I'd think your break even point would be around 500$ a skid. They're only going to be worth what someone is willing to pay. If you can get 500 computers, 10 skids, banding and shrinkwrap for free go for it. Everywhere I know of buys that kind of stuff per weight.

I would take a shot with 1 pallet load and see where it takes you. Keep us posted.

in case you don't realize it, the ones buying those big lots have agents(or they do it themselves) who visually inspect them, or in some cases the selling party will provide a detailed manifest of the lot. They KNOW what they are buying

I know you are right bear, but you have to wonder sometimes at some of the lots i've seen bid up high. Shipping overseas, paying an agent, packing, loading, transportation all add up. Plus, most markets do not have the resources to purchase at rates we think are reasonable. I was in N. Africa a few months ago and a lot of people had technology but prices were not very high to buy them. Strill scratching my head how they make money sending to other countries.
