    Dell optiplex towers

At a police auction today and there are 300+ dell optiplex towers, all with memory, all have had the hard drives removed. They are going to auction them off one at a time, I was thinking $2 to $3 dollars apiece. Anyone know about the optiplexes enough to tell me if I'm wasting my time and money?

Depends on the model number. Some have pentium 4, some have p4 HT, some have core 2 duo. Your plenty fine paying $3 each. If they have a core 2 you could pay up to $10 each if you don't mind ebay and would still be more than safe. Some resellers are willing to pay $40-80 each if they are good models for resale.

Yeah depending on the model I would go $20 each...If they are the old blue clamshell type $4-5 is the max.......For OptiPlex 745 or 755 $20 is a good price.....I cannot fathom them auctioning them off one at a time..........Wait until the end and you might get some for next to nothing

At the CA surplus auction, they do second item auctions on PCs. The winning bidder can buy one, all, or any number in between. This helps the auction move along faster while maximizing their profit.

Depends do you want to scrap or resell them. My guess is they will get bid up by someone who resells them.
I would wait until the end (If someone does not take them all) when the price is low.

They are all spread out. 8 here 10 there, each one has its own separate lot number. They are going for a minimum of $35 up $75. Plus I forgot to mention that most have had the ram removed also. Either these people have amazing resell capabilities or they are way too stupid to have that much money. 3 guys keep fighting over all of it.

The majority of them are Dell Optiplex GX620's and GX280's

A lot of the towers get shipped overseas........In a less developed country those are super nice compared to what they were using (if anything)

I finally asked one of the guys what he was doing with them and it turns out he owns the most popular used computer store in town so it all makes sense now.

Good point. A few years ago the county library had an auction and I watched computer after computer go for way more than they were worth. At the conclusion there was still a stack of old Compaq boxes and everybody else had gone home or spent all their money. I bid three bucks and the guy says "three bucks apiece" and I go "no, three bucks for the lot. Thats more than the're worth" and he kinda sighs and goes "Aw, com'on" but I got 'em for about 30 cents each. Just now scrapped them. I don't see how anyone can pay much more than that if they are scrapping the box. What am I missing?

Optoplexes go for 60 to 80+ around here. Scrappers need not apply when it comes to computer-related auctions in Dallas area.

Case in point, this is probably the most egregious price at that particular auction, but a quick look-through showed all Optiplex lots going for over 60/unit.: Renč Bates Auctioneers, Inc.
