Gov liquidation auction

There's brass bullet casings coming up to auc at an airforce base near me.. Selling in 55 gallon steel barrels and some weigh as much as 1k pounds. How much would you pay for these? They will Load and my yard will unload... I get around 1.50/lb for brass so.... And it seems to good to be true like they would just take it in themselves. Do you think they will sell for a great deal of close to what they are worth? There's like a total of 15 barrels in seperate auctions... Also is there an age limit to bid?

Watch the fine print in military auctions....you may have to render them unusable before reselling, although I think this applies more to the bigger brass, like what is shown in Brasscatchers avatar.

Also, the straight brass stuff will be eyed by the yards, too, as it is easy money for them if they don't have to do any work, other than picking them up. So you may have stiff competition.

I'll have to check with my hard. Id prob only go up to a few hundred dollars and try it out if I win, if it works out good

I'd be amazed if the yard didn't send someone. I would if I were them.

But, who knows. Auctions are weird. Out here, I've seen people pay more than retail on items, and I once saw a working farm combine sell for scrap value. You just never know.

Iam pretty sure there is an age limit.

If I remember correctly from my auction days at DRMO's you must be 18 years or older to bid on there auctions. I would call the DRMO office and inquire to make sure.

Normally that brass will shoot up in price at the last minute. Reloading company's will buy it up. Also depending on the yard they will dock for spent brass. Primers can be non brass... Some won't even accept it unless it's been run threw a popping furnace.

I've been watching those auctions for years and avoid anything specifically relating to scrap metal. The reason? Any yard within 100 miles of that place knows as much or more about the scrap available than you do. They can pay more than you for it and typically have the means to move it. The average scrapper guy with a pickup cant compete with a local yard. Its not likely that all the yards around you will somehow forget to bid on it, so there is .00001% chance of you getting lucky and stealing it away just to sell to a local yard. Sorry, dont mean to be a bubble burster... (i know the post is old but figured I'd throw it out there since it was commented on today).

So... What was the result. Someone popped this up and now inquiring minds want to know.

I have bid on them before and the other bidders must have thought they were made out of gold.

Reloaders always overpay for these. no reason to even put in a competitive bid, and the big thing to watch out for is blanks, which have no reload value only scrap value
