    Government auction

Does anybody bid on the government auction site for scrap? If so how did it work out for you? Im not trying to get into your business but i did it once and lost money. I was told i used the wrong scrap buyer. Im not sure what they meant. I get dealer prices at many scrap yards and the prices are fairly close. So what kind of buyer am i looking for? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Government auction

I only did it once. I bid on 7600 lbs of brass shells. I lost the auction by $1600. From what I saw, the people bidding on those auctions are probably foundrys because they are paying close to and even over Market price for the scrap they are bidding on. I only have scrap yards to sell to and they cant pay me what i would need to get out of it to make a profit. If you can find a foundry or mill near you, find out what they are willing to pay. Hope this helps.

I didnt know they had Govt auctions on Scrap. We just started Scrap Attack Metal Removal in January and we are trying to get our name out there still but this sounds like it would at least be fun to check out. Can you tell me where to find one? Thanks.

Go to, Seized Property Government Auctions

Then go to the tab on top, and click on 'items'

Then do a search for 'scrap metal', or 'metal'

There you will find a list of current and upcoming auctions. Many scrap metal auctions across the country, I just saw 'lot of electric motors' on the 3rd or 4th page of the search.

Here's a link for the government surplus auctions. There's a section for scrap metal. I tried bidding on some stuff, but found the winning bids to be so close to the scrap yard price, it wouldn't leave much for profit. I think the bigger yards get the stuff since they can afford to pay more than I could. If you have a roll-off service, consider contracting to government facilities for them.

On govliquidation, don't just look at scrap listings, look at everything. Their scrap sales typically seem to be (and I say seem to be, because I've never bid on anything, but I watch all the time)....they seem to be for multiple tens of thousands of pounds of material. However, there are also tons of listings for smaller items or quantities which may be mainly scrap, or sell basically at scrap prices. Trucks, trailers, generators, electronic and computer equipment, etc. Minimum bid on most lots is $150.

Whats up with all the spam advertisements lately? This is like the third one this week where someone signs up only to post their website or advertise for their business.

I just saw an auction in Bay Pines, Fl that could be interesting to someone in the area. 25 pallets of office electronics starting at $500. I hope someone can make money off this.
