Not sure why the gov auctions for old electronics go so high. Hard to see where the profit is for the winning buyer.

Just an update on auction I lost on. Bid is up to 515.00 for 50 hp cd5000 cpus, 10 hp 1320 laserjets, 20 compaq monitors. I thought I was a bit high going to 315.00 One guy actually said that if he wins can he leave the monitors behind. some of the cd/dvd drives are missing as well. Am I missing something? WTF!!!!!!

this is the NY State auction page on eBay
new york state, surplus items in nysstore store on eBay!
I'd say you're too high to make a profit. I gave up on GovDeals after a month of trying. Some lots going for a ridiculous amount of money, way more than scrap. Probably folks reselling or something. I have been successful on winning some lots for other stuff though. Like 8 overhead projectors for $2.00, 2 worked, I sold one on eBay for $25.00, scrapped the rest. Also bought a bunch of TV's for $5.00, selling 1 of them for $20.00 and scrapping the others for at least another $25.00. So that being said, I'm learning to diversify what I buy. I'd rather deal with computer stuff but I'd sell a bucket of "crap" if I could make a buck on it. lol Heck yesterday I was at my local scrap yard to unload some copper and steel, and the guy behind me had a bucket full of gold memory and pc cards. He was SOOOOO excited to be getting .75 a lb for it. I offered him $10.00 for it and he said "Really!" I said sure and as I handed him the money, he said I could have the bucket too for that price!
