First auction am I in the ballpark?

Well jumping into the online auction pool...there is a lot of 50- hp dc5000 CPUs, 10 hp 1320 laserjet printers, and 20 compaq monitors. The dc5000 look like the 3.5 floppy drive is gone. I am figuring my bid like this - 50 CPUs x $5.00 each= $250, 10 printers x $2.00 each= $20, 20 monitors x $2.00 each= $40. Total bid of $310.00 I based this on parts missing from cpu's and no power cords on anything from what I can see in posting. I sent them a question about items but have to wait till tomorrow for answer. I haven't hit my price yet bu just wanted some feedback on if it is to low or is it in ballpark.

I think your high as there is not a lot of value in printers and monitors, those are usually free-bee's to me or I don't haul them. But these auctions are crazy anymore.

mechanic- i have same philosophy when it comes to monitors and tvs, trying to get a figure on what might take it down.
bear- its a dot.com....govdeals.com...looks like local govs putting their stuff up thru this site...any info on them? No, i cant get there to see it but I am able to post questions about the lot. Just waiting for an answer.
Like I said, first time getting involved in an auction and want to set myself a ceiling price but wont go beyond that # no matter how much I might want it.

i kinda think that govdeals site makes you a 3rd party(which use would include 2 (1 hidden/unseen) contractual agreements. i'd try finding the .gov from where it originates

Bear- i had the same thought when i saw a 5% add on to winning bid. thats how they make their $ i guess. also looking at the dot.govs too. Thanks for the replys.
Dune-I figured with the copper recovery i could make a small profit on the monitors and on the printers if they have toner in them they can be taken out and sold. I think someone posted about a company that buys the empty toner cartridges. Even if I dont win it I will get an idea of how far off I will be. Like Mechanic said these auctions are sometimes whacked out on what people are paying. Thanks for the input.

gsa.gov for fed auctions, (your state/city).gov for locals. they're different from ebay in that there's no rigidly set closing time, they can go on for hours/maybedays as long as there's 2 bidders left bidding (check for inactivity rules in the auctions details)

Bear- nyc does things on a sealed mail in bidding system, dont trust them anyway, I work for the city and I know there is a lot of under the table non-sense that its not even worth it to get involved, but i will check out the fed auctions...thanks

i preferred gsa anyway BC, and yep, i was there ten years ago. 6 years ago i tossed a near pickup load of early 90s/even80s boards into a few gaylords on someones dock before i moved from there, happy to get rid of them, after several years of buying and selling what i could get working from the stuff, but at that time there were no buyers of less than truckloads, and what i was giving them was considered toxic waste

i couldn't make anything from it then bc, unless i had a tractor trailer load. I could get charged with improper toxic waste disposal tho, if'n i'd got caught sneaking it into the dump. was my pleasure at the time to give it away, was the recyclers pleasure as well ; ) As me and a friendly dock worker there were unloading it from my truck, he told me if i'd taken it to atlanta, i'd gotten almost enough to paid for the trip

Well stuck to my price and got outbid. Kinda sucks but I know I did right thing by not going over my limit. Auction still going can't wait to see what final bid is. Jumped right in two others that end soon. Hopefully it goes better. Thanks for everyone's input.

probably lucky you lost the auction instead of money. just my .02

fuel is $4.00 a gallon and breaking down printer is time consuming for very little return, and the waste is more then the metal.
