    Call2Recycle

I wanted to post about a service/business/collection which we use, Call2Recycle. You probably have seen their green and brown boxes (or not, depending on your state) in stores, town clerk's offices, and other public locations. I see a lot of buyers and sellers are able to handle may kinds of batteries (SSLA's and cell phone batts, mostly) but I would expect that the bulk of batteries encountered are alkaline or Ni-Cd's which aren't generally worth much. I know that's true for me.

Here's a link to their services. I hope I'm not out of order posting their site (I don't work for them or get any benefit from a referral) but their name didn't show up in a forum search. I didn't see anything about posting their info in the forum rules. It seemed a fair thing to do.

I mention it because they've been a huge business draw for us and a very useful outlet for the piles of batteries we get from dismantling. I thought to myself, "What would I do without it?," and it dawned on me that others on the forum might possibly not have heard of C2R. I'm sure the utility varies from person to person on SMF but there are probably at least a couple, here, who could benefit, if they aren't already taking advantage of the service.

Also, just to be clear, they aren't generally paying, though they don't usually cost anything, either. Shipping is covered and I think you can get some kind of income if you are a municipal entity with enough volume. But again, I think it isn't the same for everyone who gets involved with C2R.

I hope this can be of some use to someone.

@mikeinreco-I didn't think it was innappropriate, on first look, but I could definite see how linking to them might be sort of a breach of forum rules. I wasn't sure and I'm still not clear. Again, I don't represent them or get a kickdown for namedropping and I certainly don't mean to suggest them as an alternative to any battery buyer on SMF. But I'm not going to defend it; if this qualifies as spam I will take my lumps and I won't make the mistake a second time.

I know BB takes batts and such but the perk of C2R is that you can fill one of their boxes and just have UPS pick it up when you are ready. I don't think they extend that service to individuals but I understood from my rep that businesses of any sort can do it this way. If you aren't near BB or you get regular UPS pickups, it saves time otherwise spent driving around, looking for an outlet. Plus, you can honestly tell your accounts that you offer responsible battery recycling as part of your scrap collection services. And they take cell phones but I don't think anyone here has any trouble with those.

One other thing: C2R is non-exclusive, meaning you can have their battery/cell phone collection box but you don't have to send them everything you receive. You can sideline materials for a better return and just send away the box of stuff you can't use. We do that and it's been very successful.

yeah well they don't get those They can have the ink cartridges AFTER I take the little gold contact off, batteries and they took my tv's when they still took them. Cell phone...cold day in HELL before they get those LOLOLOL. I worked in cellular and know how to resell and get most of them unlocked. Rest gets sold for $3/lb or so. I even sell the batteries as well when I get enough.
