    Battery Backup Breakdown

I recently had some fun scrapping an old Belkin battery backup, and I took some photos during the process. I thought I'd share some of the photos. There is something so oddly satisfying about accumulating bins of components and materials.

I've got a bunch of battery backups lying around too. I think I'll take a stab at them later.

Wow, that's a lightweight unit. I would have expected to see a fist size transformer in there. All the backups I have have had large transformers in them... but I'm sure they are professional grade and this one's probably for home use. You will see what I mean when you get another one... Good job with the photos... looks great.

DESCRAPPER, DA board is probably it. But my company motto is" If you can plug it in, we can recycle it!" haha. It's all the same to me!

I just bought 18 of the APC units with 12# batteries at $0.22/lb from one yard and after breakdown am selling the parts to a second yard. Batteries at the second yard are $0.28/lb, transformers are $0.24/lb, the low-grade board is $0.15/lb, and about 1/2 lb of #2 copper I'm stashing till prices go up. I know it's not much, but it's pretty easy breaking them down while watching the tube.
