So I got 6 large nitrous oxide cylinders for free I know that the brass valves have value but is it possible to resell them as is? And if so how would anyone recommend doing so.

I'm sure they have a date their inspection is good till. In my area we have a company that sells and delivers compressed oxygen, gas for torches, and I'm sure other things. A place like that would probably hold the most interest.

What you need to know about compressed gas containers
Laws regarding compressed gas tanks (aka “cylinders” or “bottles”) are enforced by the United States Department of Transportation. There are a variety of issues that need to be taken into account before having your cylinder filled.
Is it your cylinder?
Although you may have paid for the tank in your possession, it doesn’t mean that it belongs to you. Some tanks are metal-stamped with identification marks designating their proper owner.
Is it in date?
Every 5 or 10 years compressed gas containers need to be subjected to a hydrostatic test. The last date will be stamped on the cylinder near the valve and consist of the month and year the tank was last tested.
Bottom Line: Policy and Laws about filling tanks vary from region to region. You can own any size tank your heart desires, it is a matter of who will fill them.
I'm not trying to fill them just see if its worthwhile to resell them
I understand that you don't want to fill these tanks, you just want to try and make some money. We are all on the same page and that is what makes this sight good, people helping each other to do just that. I'm only suggesting that if you know that these tanks can be serviced (refilled) you have a greater chance of selling them.
So as others had said, it would be best to check with your local gas supplier as they will have the most input on the value!
I understand that one should check with their local gas supply but since I am so new that my hands aren't even rusty yet I wanted to see if anyone else has ever tried it and if so what amount they received and whether or not it was even worth it I spent the past 6 years working with compressed and liquid gases so I am well versed in the safety just never tried selling the cylinders as I didn't want to go to Leavenworth.
I have bought a lot of cylinders and sold a few. at one time you got a sort of title stating you owned the tanks. that was late 60's...
now a days, there have been so many buyouts of LWS that the names mean very little, and aside from one LWS, pretty much I can get anything filled anywhere, or at least exchanged, if in date.
so that has made it easier to sell tanks as people can get them filled.
if they are out of date, they are usually not worth much (bought 2 5' tall c02 tanks full, but out of date for $5 ea once), but if you take them in and pay the re-inspect fee, they will well for a good price. *(except propane, have found they are not worth the cost because you just exchange old ones at the grocery store no questions asked...)
if you just want to sell them as-is, pull the valves, and sell to an artist. they buy the tanks all the time to make those giant wind chimes and usually pay pretty decent.

I believe Nitrous Oxide comes in at least three grades (I only familiar with three). Nitrous for the hotrod is not as pure as the gas the dentist uses. As for the Party, one might think about grades, regulators, tank size, and serving method, if want another party.
