Big source of Brass - Char Broil Pro Grills

Hi guys. I wanted to show y'all the big amounts of brass inside Char-Broil Pro grills. The burners are made of brass and weigh about 3 lbs all together, about 6 for the whole grill.

The guys at the scrap yard took the stainless out of the truck and tossed it in the shred tub and weighed it while I was at the scale weighing in my copper and aluminum. Oh well.

Should have called them out on it. What business did he have taking stuff out of your truck? I sometimes have stuff in my truck that 1., looks like scrap but isn't. 2., it's headed to a different yard for a better price.

Ahh, you got me there Idaho! This was the same yard that told me to go to another yard down the street because I had a 8 x 4 trailer full of tin, and the bigger yard down the street would unload me faster (smaller yard doesn't have a truck scale). After that, I am only going to the bigger yard from now on.

I've never seen brass burner rods...Most of the time it is either SS or shred.

I've yet to see a brass burner on the BBQ's I've done. I only find it in the valves and the fitting that connects to the propane tank.

magnets are free but they are the most valuable tool a scrapper can have. You need to take off all metal attachments before bringing to the yard for max. value.

The first and second picture I don't think are brass. They are usually even magnetic.

I'm not trying to be rude here, but do you guys really think I'm stupid enough to judge a metal buy its color? Of course I checked it with a magnet AND I took off the metal screws. (I could not get that piece of tubing off the first pic) When i took it into the yard, they checked it and took it as yellow brass, so I would assume it was brass. Again, not trying to be rude.

So today I was finishing up tearing apart some stuff. One of the things was an old grill. I went to throw the burners in the stainless bin then I thought I have seen a picture of these before. Grabbed my grinder and hit the side of the burner - Yellow brass through and through. It's a first for me as well but I made triple the money on those burners just because I spent some time reading here. Thanks to the original poster for the heads up.

1st two photos are stainless once you break off or remove any steel...
2nd two photos are yellow brass once you remove the steel as well....

The 1st two could be brass but you still need to remove the steel from them...

on your photos you have steel screws. If you got paid for brass with them on better for you! What did you get for the rest of the grill?

The pictures were actually back in June when I got this grill, but I found the photos on my computer the other day, and I thought I might as well share. Anyway, I think I got around 10-15 bucks for the thing. I lost the receipt, so I cant give you exact numbers. Sorry. I was glad I scraped it for more then just shred, which was my original plan.

I don't think I have ever checked the burners before. However, I DO know for sure, that I will check them from now on. Thanks so much for the heads up!!
