Thanks, appreciate the link. That's expensive stuff! Unfortunately, I only have a few lbs. of it, and not sure about shipping it across the border from Canada. I'll give them a call and see what they say.
check with some plumbers. If you live in an older house the laundry room tubs have a lead pipe for the drain. It's on the old cement sinks.
Zito, thanks for the info. I was going by what y scrap yard guy told me. Thanks for setting the record straight.
There's also a lead weight in window blind hangers and telephone receivers
Call your local dentist and ask them for the lead foils from their x-rays.
go to shooting range and get the lead bullets
Zito is correct, x-ray machines do not irradiate or contaminate the lead in the machines. HOWEVER, do be careful of x-ray windows and tubes. They can contain Berilium which you DO NOT want to inhale if broken or grinded on.
In coastal areas, it is often very easy to go to garage sales or auctions and grab tackle boxes loaded with pounds of sinkers on the bottom. They don't come free but selling off the plugs and tackle inside often not only pays the cost of loaded tackle boxes but offers a pretty eBay penny in their own right. The lead is then free-plus. I have easily 200 pounds of fishing sinkers from garage sales and auctions. Of course, I also use a metal detector and find pound after pound of lead (sinkers) in shallow water.
By the by, a previous responder was right-on when he noted that many lead/metal objects are worth way more than their scrap value. Scrapping is technically making as much as is possible from collected metals and such. It becomes a science in selling to the best ends. Scrap dealers are often the worst end to good metals.
maybe you can find an old sailboat? some have lead keel 800 to thousands of pounds depending on size.
Cast nets are a good source for lead, some up to 25 or 30 lbs
new to this forum, but theres a lot of good ideas here.
i remember in the early 80,s in california we were taking out some walls in a radioligist
office. there were tons of lead sheets in the walls.at at the time i didn,t realize
we were throwing away hundreds of dollars. there were several hundred pounds
of lead.
