A question about Gold pins and scrap - Page 3

New to the forum and just wanted to share a recent story. Well i pulled pound of pins from a mixture of old and new computers and decided after staring at the container long enough to toss them all into a crucible and see what came out(still new to using crucible). What i ended up with was a 352gram blob of goldish metal. Around this time i was getting some scrap gold melted down at the local pawn shop and decided to take it with me when i picked my gold up. They put this lowball electronic tester on it in 10 different places and told me it kept reading 6k. They asked me what i wanted to do with it and i asked how much it was worth. They told me that with my permission, they would have it sent out and melted into a bar and give me an accurate reading on what percentages of metals were in it. The bar and info came back a few days later and the numbers i remember were:

94.025% copper
4.109% nickle
1.?% silver

and 0.6342 gold

I just thought that might give some info as to ratios. Like i said, the pins were mixed from the sold gold pins to the pins that just have one sided gold on the end tips.

really it all comes down to education cause if your really trying to maximize your profits then you got to spend the time calling and emailing everyone to find the best prices but if you want to cut out the middle man or woman as much as possible then go to some classes using the money you make from scrapping and learn to refine safely and the best ways it works for you and your local laws like here for example except for the neighbors maybe at times thinking im making meth lol serious though can refine in small batches at home which I am currently not doing but have tried it on a small basic level for my gold fingers and safely I will add and made me my first 4g gold bar not total purity about .983 which was a great time for me but without a serious investment that space is a problem I am not going forth until then. on a refining level to cut out that downline you need to be producing thousands of pound of material to get the best prices or saving everything for a whole year or something like that to make it worth while for both of you

This is how every thread should be. Wow is the scrap room like this. An area of free exchange with people who know what is going on. You just saved people a year of learning this.
