You guys dont get it do you? All of the new computer use pinless CPU's there is less gold content
in them, so when old computers run out there will be less money in recycling computers the buisness
    might shut down.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you better get in why the going is still good.

as technology serge's ahead .expect the value of boards to go up while the weight goes down .also expect people will find ways to recycle exotic metals and materials as well .for instance im sitting about 75-80 lbs of clean neodymium magnets lol .so far no one is offering a good price

Actually I think most of us do get it. It's already been stated that the per # price may go down but the volume will increase thus evening it all out. We all know that newer pc's have a much lower precious metal content, therefore, as far as scrap goes, I, at least, pay less for them. I believe that, after reading a lot on this forum, most of the scrappers here that make good money, roll with whatever makes them the most at any given time, so if not computers something else will pop up. I have also noticed that where I live most of the electronics recyclers that Tulsa had are no longer in business. Most quit or gave up. I don't know why, but I fully agree with Mech that now is the time to go big or go home. I just got 7 new contacts yesterday who all advertise haul offs and junk removal on Craigslist and none of them had an outlet for electronics or computers. Each agreed that selling to me at above current shred price, which what they do with them, would be much more profitable. If I keep growing at the rate I have been over the past few months, e-scrap will be my full time job. And I just started. We will never run out of things to scrap. You just have to go where the money is.

Yeah, newer computers will have less gold in them, just like 2011 Buick weighs a bunch less than 1975 Buick, but the 2012 will have multiple cats on it as well, all Probadly worth more than a single pancake bead type cat, which gm used into the 1990's. So it's just value in different places, wether be it in volume or more expensive materials used elsewhere, it's all about the same.

First off I don't post pictures because I am technologically challenged.
But I saw a special the other night on how they are researching memory storage and data transfer at the sub atomic level.

Question - Who is researching how to scrap those when it hits that point?
You can make money 2 ways.
    1 - Do what others won't.
    2 - Do what others can't.

What special was this? I would be very interested to watch that.

I tried to find it on the web, but it would have been either Discovery or History channel. The actual special was about something else but there was a segment on it about the relationship between doubling time for computer technology and economic downfall. They did not get into the specifics of how the quantum computers would work only said that was the direction they were taking and explained some general information behind it. Their main point was that at the quantum level of computing humans would loose their edge on computers. The computer brain would finally fully exceed ours.

I did find this which was along the lines of what they were talking about.

Start researching rare earth metals. They are used in the manufacturing of lcd screens and other electronics that use that type of display. There is a lot of research going on right now in how to refine and reuse them. I have been saving all my screens that I come across.

If this is what you do full time for a living then you would be very wise to have a plan for the future. The flow of e scrap will continue but the appearance of E scrap yards will explode in the next few years. I opened up almost 1 year ago out of nowhere and do a fair amount of volume each month. This scrap was going somewhere else before and it has to affected someone's business.
What if someone like me came into your town and opened up?
1.I could severely cut into your customer base and buy the scrap you were buying by pricing you out of the market...
2.I could help support you by being a buyer who gets you top pricing but that would affect who you were selling to ....
The point is that the top buyers on here are that way because they are aware of the business climate and what's going on around them
The supply of ewaste might not run out but you just might not get any of it unless you have a mature well thought out business plan that includes the future

Spoken like a true businessman. Try shortening it to competition.

One key to any successful business is the ability to adapt no matter what it be. Nothing remains constant, and every business and industry has a "lifecycle". E-waste is still a baby, and as long as there is large institutions and corporations they will continue to generate significant amounts of e-waste. There is way more to it than the Personal Computers being replaced by tablets and smartphones though.

I agree I buy a lot of govt surplus and I am going through a load of HP office printers now.......Most have more than 50% of their toner left and several only printed a couple thousand pages.......These are easy sales on Ebay............These printers will print hundreds of thousands of pages........There is more to ewaste than just scrapping this stuff......You must stay flexible........Re-sell............Scrap.............ETC
