CD DVD Floppy Drives to Keep ?

I know some scrap everything, some try to Ebay everything, others that have lines between the two. Where is your line?
Mine for floppies has been most anything that isn't made in China, is not damaged, dirty, or been obviously and totally neglected.
I do not shun the ones from China due to their location on a map, or because their people are somehow inferior(they are not), or because they aren't capable of producing quality products(when they want to), but simply because I know corporate greed is not limited or restricted to companies in USA, and many companies there are government controlled, and they don't like us all that well(and I have little faith in their wish to provide quality products of any kind to us)/<end of rant>*

What about CD/DVDs? OK, the first one I grabbed was a 1998 Toshiba of Japan (assembled in Philippines) simple IDE CDROM, which I suppose could be on the virge. The next one in the stack has a LG 52X on the front.

Are there any particular models or versions or types that are better kept for listing on places such as ebay?

I realize the DVD burners, I also keep the better looking readers(DVDROM) to use as a secondary drive to facilitate burning direct copies.
Also I know the 5.25" floppy drives, especially if it has the dual 5.25"/3.5" combo drive.
And also SCSI drives are worth checking into

Mainly I guess the question is towards older floppy and CD drives, and at what points you'd consider them being(or maybe becoming) worth consideration to set aside for future use, or better than scrap value

I had good luck selling 5.25" floppy drives on ebay, untested. Usually get $10-20 a piece. I also save the newer DVD-RW drives, and sell them for $3-5 a piece locally, again untested.
The other thing I had good luck with were certain types of tape drives, sold a pair out of a tape library for $180 on ebay, and sold another Sun brand for $50.
I scrap pretty much every other CD/DVD/floppy drive.

yeah, I like the free/spare parts thing, I've collected/saved them for years.

Aurum, those tape drives are always worth looking in to

Anybody know if early pentiums had limits on drives, remember the old 2x, 4x, 8x drives, are any of those old machines stuck to those speed drives?

specially the 250s yep. I don't think I've ever had any of the cartridges though, I've still got an unopened 5 pack of 100s

last ones I sold you about had to bundle 2 or 3 together. I also had aquired some new zip cartridges I was selling with them. They were still selling then, but definitely on the wane

What SCSI, are any of the older, slower speeds, required for older machines?

Off the top of my head:

Any working 1x CDROM drives (the ones where the whole device slides out, or caddy loading).
Plextor SCSI drives (collectors like them).
Combo 3.5"/5.25" floppy drives.
Yamaha CRW F1 series external drives (best for ripping CDs or something).
Full height floppy drives (IBM PC/XT type).
Slot inject CDROM drives (Pioneer and somebody else made them).
Kenwood True-X CDROM drives (multi laser beams can do 72X etc, collectable).

thanks Unknownk, that's kinda funny about the slot injector type, I never really liked them, just personal preference I guess, but presumed dust could settle on the slot inlet and have an abrasive effect on the disks
