Question regarding a Dell Inspiron 1501..

So I was given a laptop last week, in exchange for destroying the hard drive. I destroyed the HD an am now stuck with the laptop. It has issues, won't hold a charge, whether it's plugged in a day or a week, nor will it detect the charger. No biggie, as I don't want to use the silly thing.

I know some of you folks deal in laptops...so..How much can I expect for this if sold to a buyer? I have no idea if it's a p1 p2 p4, etc. So don't tell me to look at pricing cause everyone who buys them uses the p1 etc.

I don't plan to strip it, I just want it gone. Good screen, it fires up but again it won't charge so it won't stay on very long. An it has no HD since I had to destroy it for said client. Everything else is there.

Here is the info I have on it..

    Dell Inspiron 1501
Model - pp231 a ( When I type this in a dell inspiron 1505 pops up, but this is the model number on the bottom!)

    It's running windows XP Home.

So..if anyone knows if this silly thing is a p1, p2, pwhatever..let me know, or if you want it for scrap or to fix, shoot me a pm if you deal with these.

Thanks folks an sorry for the noob question, but I don't normally deal with laptops, so again thanks for any help an my apologies for asking a silly question.

Edit : Adding pics in case it helps!

To figure out general info you search for"dell 1501 specs"...that Iis the best way. Actually these laptops do not have an intel chip in it. It has either an amd semptron (low end), turion (medium), or tuion 64 (think dual core intel). There might be a sticker on the back wuth specs or you might can call drll with the serial number to get what was in it originally...most people dont upgrade laptops as it is fat more daunting than a desktop.

I would then list it on ebay as a dell 1501 with those specs and list it as a "parts" machine. List what you know works and what doesnt....you will get far more than scrap value. I list every single laptop I get that way unless I know the whole thing is toast (say water damaged or crushed). Be sure to say what is missing and what you could test...like the screen if it powered on. If you cant find the processor rype just tell them that...either way you will get far more $$$ as a parts machine, especially with a working screen than in scrap.

Good luck...I have 5 here I have to list for parts today or tomorrow in my ebay store. Oh and have them pay shipping of course.

Thanks WBSTS. An yes..it's a amd processor from what I could find out on it.

I don't do ebay so to one of the buyers on here it goes one way or the other.

Updating first posts with some pics, and will try your suggestion.

    Thank ya again! Much appreciated.

that looks like it's complete but is it specific to that laptop. The best way I know is to google "dell support" click the first result, enter the "tag" number from bottom a laptop, go to the page for that, then click "specs". Scroll down the page to find date shipped, CPU, HDD, RAM, etc

Bear did as you suggested, an I found a link to components but its even more gibberish.

It did give me the date..2006 is when it shipped. Other then that the info given was parts #'s.

I'll just leave the above up from CNET as its the specs I can find, and somewhat understand..lol. As WBSTS mentioned it hasn't been upgraded or anything else. Straight up factory specs. I just double checked with the person who gave it to me. If it helps any.

Thanks again tho folks, it's more then i had to go on at the start!

You have to read the lines beside the part number, I know they don't make it easy, but you will find there the CPU, RAM and HDD that shipped with it.
Please note, those specs are "as shipped", and things could have been swapped since then. On a laptop though, most likely not the CPU, and you already know the HDD is gone, so the only thing left to check would be the RAM, which is easily accessed by removing a screw and the cover from the RAM bay. Just flip it over, it'll be the first access cover you'll see there. You can remove the cover by taking out the screw, and remove the RAM(if size/type label isn't visible) by simply pulling the spring clips on each end out until the chip pops up. Replace by pushing it firmly back into its slot, and pressing it down into the clips, you'll feel it snap into place. If by chance there's only one RAM stick, and you can see the label, no need to remove it(unless you want to keep it haha ; )

Do not smash, the bulbs in the screen have mercury in them.
