My First Pentium Pro

Congrats, if it's the Pentium Pro with the gold cap on top, they average, regardless of the L2 cache size, about .33 grams each. You could probably sell it on ebay for $20-$30.

Nice. From the hundreds of computers (probably over 1000), I have yet to get me one of those, and have only about a half a dozen of nice 386/486 ceramic chips.

Keep at it and you will get more. I am sure that I will get one eventually.

It is the holy grail of CPUs.

I have yet to get one either parrot. I get more joy of pulling a sellable pinless CPU now though Still waiting for one of them $200 xeon chips.

I love finding the old processors. I still get giddy when I see the old machines. It never gets old flipping a heatsink over and seeing shiny stuff

Its the holy grail to scrappers but not to collectors. I've sold some small IC chip's for $200.00 ea.

Still an excellent find though.

Hmmmmm Looks around.. Pinless CPU Xeon.. Chuckle.. nah.. I don't have one.. Kicks dirt around..

just want to congrat to your Pentium Pro... I've been able to find alot of them.. Not sure why.. Maybe South Dakota is a rich state.?

These are actually the holy grail of chips, with a few oddball exceptions, these are considered the highest yielding, lb for lb, not individual, of any single type of IC, Eprom, Prom or CPU.



The thing about the Pentium Pro is that it is one of the highest, if not the highest gold content per CPU, for each single chip, so in that regard it's the holy grail of single CPUs.

lb for lb, this type of CPU yields more than a lb of Pentium Pros, the old Pentium 1



I have processed a ton, literally and much more, of ICs, CPUs, Eproms, Proms, etc. When I come across older ones that have a lot of gold plating, I always check to see what the going prices are.

Here is an example of tiny ICs I was able to sell for $35 each:

I sold these on ebay as well for a nice profit



These usually go to collectors, the board actually went to a gentleman who lives in Germany that collects boards for their artistic value. In the last year he has spent several thousand purchasing boards from me.

My point is that if you are careful, check your chips before you sell or destroy them, you will make more money. Also, remember, that the prices I am quoting is what I was able to sell them for, but not what my profit was. I treat people I do business with fairly, so I either paid the person who brought these to me a good price, or sold them and split the profit with them. I do this because even scrappers or treasure hunters that regularly sell scrap, and not to me, usually bring this type of material to me because they know I will deal with them fairly. This is the reason I end up with so much of this type of material. That and the fact I live close to Silicon Valley.

When I have free time, I sometimes enjoy going to swap meets. You can sometimes find this type of material being sold by someone at the swap meet. If you have a smart phone, a lot of the time you can check the part number on the chip and easily find the value. I have come across some amazing deals in this way, and a few times just flat out bought the person selling the chips, out totally.

It takes a little bit of learning, but in doing so you not only will teach yourself what to look for, but you will be adding to your bottom line in a way most scrappers do not. While I don't feel comfortable talking about what I make, I can say this. Selling the unusual, collectable or rare chips and/or boards has generated several thousands of dollars every year.
