im assuming there is already a thread on this but I cant find one, if someone would point me that way thatd be great. Fairly new to e waste, I was wondering besides the things like copper windings that people take off for scrap price, is there anything worth taking off to resell on ebay on the mid grade type boards? resisters, ect?

Make sure you are going to end up w/ buckets full before you start removing them unless your just bored.

Any Gold plated items like pins or connectors. You won't find them in abundance on mid grade, but some do have them. They sell pretty well to small refiners on ebay. I use a fine tipped pair of wire cutters and add any pins on mid grade boards I find into a jar. It takes a long time to get a pound of pins this way.

just remember that when your pulling stuff off of mid grade and higher you are downgrading the boards, you might take it from 2-3 lb down to .50-.10 a lb.Originally Posted by jennija

sorry i read midgrade but was picturing low grade bc thats the only thing that i take stuff off. duhh.
MER- are the gold pins much smaller in size than whats considered peripheral or is it midgrade bc of the other junk stuff on the board? grade confused here on mid/perph/higher than perph. not to derail....

You only take off of lowgrade? You can upgrade some midgrade (circuit boards that are green on both sides) by removing heavy base metal items such as transformers, coil packs, large capacitors, ect.
A board can be midgrade for several reasons: for example, you may have a high grade board but heavy transformers ect make the board weigh so much that a buyer would loose money if he paid you high grade price. So The buyer pays mid grade price a lot of times in this situation.
Also boards can be midgrade because there just isnt a lot of gold bearing or other precious metal items on it, but it is still green on both sides of the board.
Im a little confused by your question on gold pins. yes gold pins are much smaller than peripheral, but is that your question?
peripheral grade is different with buyers i have noticed. Some consider them high grade and some pay for them as midgrade high. It also depends on what kind of peripheral board you got.
There are so many grades it will make your head hurt.
Try sorting through hundreds of pounds of boards that are all mixed & classify each one. I cant imagine what the big buyers go through when they get gaylords of mixed boards all thrown in.

stuff was not a great description.. i was talking about the stuff that is worth taking off to sell. i have removed steel/aluminum/plastic etc to make money and/or bc i thought a buyer would want it removed.
yeah i think ive seen different pics from different sources w/ reference to peripheral and being more than peripheral. I saw mention of printer boards w/ card slots being more than peripheral but i dont know what that board would look like. i have a few i think are but then i look at a bunch of other mid grades and think they dont look so different.. the cycle continues. lol
anyway...dont want to take over the thread.
