    hard drive questions

Hey guys I am new to the scrapping game. I like to take apart hard drives and scrap them. It is kind of therapy for me, keeps me calm in life. Had a few questions.

    1. Purchasing hard drives off ebay is there any difference between the different gb sizes as pertaining to the parts for scrap. Does the 200gb get more scrap money than the 20gb.
    2. What is a good price to purchase these broken hard drives.
    3. Some of the hard drives I get in are large gb. Should I test them to see if they are really broken and if they are not should they be sold on ebay.
    4. I see on ebay a lot of 6 1 TB hard drives broken for parts going for over $160. Why is that.

Thanks again guys for the help. There is so much to learn and so little time.

    1. You may get more for a 20 than a 200gb pure scrap value, but the difference wouldn't be much. I can't imagine you would make any money buying HD from ebay to just scrap them. SHipping alone would most likely be more than scrap value.

    3. I would always test them, worth way more resale than scrap if they are the right size
    4. People on ebay are CRAZY! Most likely using them for parts. Still seems high

    Good luck

What do you think is a good price for them off ebay. I average $2 to $3 per drive when buying them broken. And im just hoarding the cards and aluminum till price goes up.

You're paying that much for them when broken? That is too much. $1 is about break-even.

Don't take this wrong but with those prices you are part of the problem for IT scrappers not the solution.

do some study here on the archives and old threads get familiar with REAL prices parts and VALUE of IT scrap. with cost going up and PM prices going down. the cost of a whole scrap computer should not top $3. Just my .02
