Once in a while I weigh all the scrap on some of the larger servers that I get, to see how much profit there is.
This one was a Dell Poweredge 6600, 4U server. It was all complete with hard drives and RAM. This one was about as loaded as they come, remember with servers there are a lot of options and variables, the same model can have more or less CPU’s, Hard drives, RAM, etc. Prices are what I get, again may vary.
Steel case 45 lbs x 0.09/lb = $4.05
Aluminum 1 lb x 0.50/lb= $0.50
Hard drives (6 pieces)10 lbs x 0.90/lb = $9.00
Power supplies (2 pieces) 17.5 lbs x 0.25/lb = $4.38
Wires (included power cords) 3 lbs x 0.85/lb = $2.55
Fans 5 lbs x 0.10/lb = $0.50
Copper (4 CPU heat sinks, broke off Al fins) 3.3 lbs x 2.50/lb = $8.37
RAM 0.73 lbs x 13.00/lb = $9.56
CPU (4 pieces) 0.52 lbs x 8.00/lb = $4.12
Boards (had 3 misc cards installed) 9.2 lbs x 3.50/lb = $32.20
TOTAL $75.23
Paid $20 for this one, total time spent was about an hour (1/2 hour to go pick up, 1/2 hour to break down and sort), not bad profit.
