Yes but you'll need the addition of a cable for power, that one's specific for data.
so basically hook a power supply up to it. I have tons of those
I have that exact kit and yes, that is what you need.
sweet thanks. I got a guy that buys my sata drives but I want to test wipe and sell my ide drives 40gigs and up on ebay. I know this is on here but will ask since I got you here. good software to wipe?
i usualy hook up the drive as a slave to a desktop pc, delete all files then format the drive.
When testing I use an extra tower power supply. I purchased a tower power supply tester that allows the tower power supply to operate. A tower power supply requires a feed back circuit to make the power supply put out the proper voltages.
When I started testing hard drives I used a similar kit and it worked but I found the included power supply broke very soon. Using the tower power supply has worked well for me and can power both IDE and SATA drives. Best of luck, Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
While I've never had the power supply die on me, the usb connector inside the plastic rusted but still works.
ok thanks guys. that's another thing I need to look into a power supply tester I have a ton of them some are barely used and look new
I use DBAN on a dedicated computer. If you're using an external adapter, though, Parted Magic is likely going to be a better choice.
I'd run it on a dedicated machine, though. The last thing that you want to do is wipe your own personal hard drive. Ouch!
thanks again
I couldn't agree more!
I just use an old desktop, costs nothing and dedicated software that runs directly from a CD. This way no need to worry about wiping your own hard drive, viruses, etc. Plus no special hardware/cables to buy. When I have a lot of hard drives to wipe, I set up 2 or 3!
I use a startech 4 port docking station and media tools wipe for my software. You should DOD wipe all drives with at least a 3 pass wipe before selling them on ebay. You should also make sure that the drives dont have any SMART errors. Crystal disk info is a free program that can be used for this. Also HD Tune Pro has a health checker and a quick scanner for bad sectors. I started with just doing the simple stuff. Had to move into the better programs because you will get alot of returns if your not carefull on how you sell used drives on ebay.
