Amen to that. An on another side note..you an me both know that weight being sent in means you will get more gold as the % of gold loss will be less.

For those who do not understand that...You send 200pounds of computer scrap to be refined the gold fairy needs her share..that mean there will be a % of lost gold that is at no fault to the refiner...its just how it is...but if you send in 2,000pounds you will still lose X amount of gold to the gold fairy but the amount lost is about the same...so that means the more scrap you send the better you are off. If I paid $3.20 per pound..I send my boards in when I have around 3k boards that's a risk of $9,600 an..you just hope gold dose not drop out!

Kinda like a scale at the scrap yard...you take 1.6 pounds it comes up with 1pound..kinda the same with gold...other than its not a few pennys you are losing....but a few Franklin's

P.s...gold jumps up an down...we make an lose a ton of cash that way as well...its risky when you get to this level!!

Interesting concept, Dumpster Dee. It's the same on every fourm; the older guys get pissed off at the newbies for asking the same question without searching for the answer, first; Google is my friend. I've been doing a LOT of reading and lurking on this forum. :)

I would like to point out that I am in Alaska. There is no economical way for me to buy scrap nationally because of the shipping aspect (I’m getting the impression some think I am competition).

There are other items/categories of e-scrap (hard drive boards/hard drives without board/cellphones/cellphones without batteries/answering machine,cordless phones,digital cameras/power supplies with wire/power supplies without wire/fingerless cards/fingerless memory/telecom high grade boards/IC chips/mid grade boards/etc) that are not available on the any buy list that I have seen on the forum. Sellers like to have options as to how they process their scrap.

And yes, I believe that the metal content (gold/silver/etc) of each component should be available so people can judge for themselves if they are receiving a fair price. I understand buyers/sellers/refiners all have to make money or they wouldn’t do what they do. However, we know who benefits by keeping the seller in the dark about what they are really selling.

When buying a house often both the buyer and the seller each have a realtor looking out for their interests. I am acting the part of the seller’s realtor since the buyers seem to be well represented.

And so no one thinks I am “after” anyone or there business I too have sent easyrecycle PM’s and received quick courteous replies.

Just like in realestate, if you have a realtor, he gets his cut... if you buy a home on your own you can get screwed... as for assay results, if we have paid considerable money, we would need to be compensated for our risk in obtaining those results... right? greater risk is for greater reward... if you arent taking the chances everyone else is, why do you deserve to be rewarded???

Next time you go to a store, when you are at check out, ask them how much money they are making on you... or what they paid for that...

If I went to a store (buyer) and told them (seller) want there product was worth (circuit boards) because I wanted to turn around and sell them to someone else, I would be laughed at or worse.

People with the scrap need to work together on this or buyer bullying won't stop. They need your scrap.

The amount of gold that can be found is not something simple....from the date it was made..an the factory that made it can mean more or less gold.

Lets take item A...Item A can have 1gram of gold but on the same item that was made at the same time but in a diffident factory it could be 0.8grams of gold or on this date it came out to 1.2grams of gold...it verys very widely.

An on top of that...If you would LIKE to spend as much money-time an hard work into finding out how you can make profit on any one item..then you can only do one thing...buy my company out an I will hand you all my books (that wont happen any time soon).

Even with all my books/sheets I keep (an update every time I take a load in on what was made an amount of metals that where recovered) I still have to keep them updated an adding more data to them an they have even been wrong an I find out I lost lost money.

Its not just a clear cut deal.

Here's my take on all this. If you want to criticize someone else's statements back it up with fact, not generalities. And as far as you paid 50k in assay fee's I'd find a new refiner. I don't think I've come across a refiner that charges a dime for assay. My first load was under 500 lbs and the refiner still sent my my assay results free before I made the decision to have it refined.

But if you want to tell people their wrong, especially on a forum meant to enlighten people back it up plain and simple. We aren't competition for each other, the whole point of this board is to help each other. Why do you think we have the info we do in the scrap room. Why do you think people want to start an association.

i am a young recycler getting started with a small pickup truck. i dumpster dive, i ask my friends and neighbors, and i network locally. i see the competition on criagslist, i see the competition at the mechanic shops, and i understand the territorial nature of the scrap business. i am not a threat to anyone's livelyhood, but i guess if things got out of hand, it would be different. not everyone interested in this forum does enough weight or volume to threaten anyone else. (and you're not an *******)

that wasnt a criticism... if you don't like my response than ignore it. We have been doing this for 7 years, we ship out in excess of 50,000 lbs of printed circuit boards a month... i also never mentioned the number "50" as to what we paid. When you ship material to the smelter they ALWAYS charge an assay fee. Not to mention it can take up to 5 months to get paid on an entirely DIFFERENT market.

99.9% of domestic refiners are stripping facilities which don't get you a complete recovery. So when you say they offer a "free" assay thats because they make gravy on what they lacked in ability to recover... this isn't jewelry it is electronic scrap... the recovery is much more difficult of the various precious metals not to mention much more dangerous.

As for being competition, we source material from all regions of the US as well as Canada.

I am on the forum to help others, but spoonfeeding is not an option for me. We have a successful business and operation... im happy to encourage others to success and provide advice when feasible... if you have a problem with this, perhaps you can block all of my posts?

This is a tough, dirty business... no one spoonfed me and we took some serious financial risks to know what we know... just like easy - if you want to know the answers then go on the journey.

I dont understand the buyer bullying? How is not telling you the estimated values we get bullying, unreasonable, unfair, cheating, etc?? That doesn't make sense. Each load comes back different than another. One is higher, one is lower. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose... just like the sellers do. You guys are trying really hard to turn this into an "us" vs "them" situation which is unreasonable.

The truth is there are variables that can run a ton from 5 troy oz per ton to 9 troy oz per ton...as technology changes so do the yields... the training is constant for our guys on the line. We are assuming the financiial risks in our sorting methodology, so why would we share this with the world? Our buying prices are beyond fair... I dont understand why sellers want to count our money...

Our CPU sorter complains about having to change the way we do it every few weeks... it is a matter of finding the right blend to maximize the yields.

Again using the analogy of going to a store and asking what they paid for the item at check out is comparing this situation apples to apples... so like anything do your homework and use your best discretion and dont turn down a profit :)

My post was intended as a general statement to all - not "us" vs "them". There's a lot of good information here from various perspectives and I hope everyone sees it that way.

Yea this thread got a little heated. With e-waste even if they assay one or even two boards...that will not give you the gold worth of the lot. The refiner will give you a "free" assay but you take there paper work as recycled paper...you have a 3ed party do the assay on the boards that way you know everyone is staying honest.

If there is anyone who wants to get into buying an selling computer waste scrap you are more than welcome but understand this...Its not as easy as it is...that is why some companies cant pay what I can..they pay very little..I keep a running avg an base all my prices on that running avg.

And on a side note I sent my low grade boards in...profit on them was bad..I can only pay $0.10 to $0.15cents to make sure I am able to cover my costs.

They think we are making a ton of money on them when in fact....our ROI on 90% is below 35%. There are only 3 items I make a ROI of 1.1 an thats because I have to hold onto those items for a good bit to save up the weight needed before sending out. So on those items I do make 1 dollar for every dollar I spent...but most of what we do...our ROI is below 35%

I know one thing for sure, easy.....as my Daddy used to say..."you don't let no grass grow under your feet !!" I may be wrong, but some people seem to resent us newbies who sometimes ask elementary (some would call stupid) questions about e-scrap, but I've never felt that from you; exactly the opposite. From the very beginning you have treated us all with consideration and respect, even if, to you it was something you knew at 4 yrs. old. I, for one am sincerely grateful and have made an effort to do some googleing to educate myself a little. A few weeks ago I was getting ready to send a small box of my stuff, but you shared that it would be better to save it up and send it in large quantities. That saved me some money and some embarrassment, 'cause at that time I didn't know the difference between high grade and low grade....something that seems obvious sometimes and still perplexes me at others....so I keep googleing. Thank you, easy.
