Copper Aluminum Heatsinks

Took some copper aluminum heat sinks to the yard for the first time today. The guy in the NF building told me they would go as dirty aluminum because there was not enough copper even though several had the heavy copper bottom. Has anyone else experienced this?

When I took my ticket to the office to get paid I spoke up about it. The owner changed it for me to get the 90 cents a pound versus the 9 cents or whatever amount they pay for dirty. Not sure if the fact that she and I went to school together and rode the same bus had anything to do with that. But that is the main reason that I keep going back to that yard. It is nice to do business with people you know.

What yard are you using? Wietsman in Albany is buying E-waste now (prices are low). They are paying $.25 a pound for Cu/Al heatsinks.

Around me, my main yard would say dirty aluminum. Yard in North Adams Cu/Al for the clean ones and dirty Aluminum for the dirty ones.

You should be getting clean ACR price for these, and should not take any less than that for them. I just took in a bunch at .90/lb.

As mentioned above you have to be prepared to walk, even at a yard you have a good relationship with.

I'm not going to argue with someone who has more knowledge than I do, but almost every buyer I deal with pays ACR on them.

My case was the same as yours, HG. Got dirty aluminum price the first time and spoke to the owner about it.

I've gotten copper aluminum radiator price for them every time since them. It pays to speak up.

I have put them with ACR (Aluminium Copper radiators) and got that price before.

But last time I was there I noticed a bunch of them in with the 'contaminated Ali'. I asked about it and they said its "Contaminated Ali, see its Ali, and contaminated"....

Uh? I said "Its a Copper/Ali radiator, that's what it does as a heatsink".
"Nah, Contaminated Ali" they said again....

I do need to get this sorted out there, as I have some Ali/Copper radiators from a heatpump and some Ali/Copper heatsinks to sell WITH them.....as one sale, one grade, one price, one good price.

Imagine downgrading Aluminium because its got Copper with it....

Just took a load in on the 26th of July. I received .90/LB for ALum/Cu heatsinks. They called them Cu Alum Rad. First time I had not broke them down.

Sounds like your scale operator doesn't know too much about metals and the alloys of brass. I think they just try to downgrade whenever they can. Makes more money for the yard.
