Holy grail to me

First time scraping computers and i guess may as well start big now i have several crt to deal with Also but this account to me is worth it seeing as your able to also see the large electric motors that came with them with atleast 6 or 8 more similar sized or larger not even hauled today I'll happily take any tips anyone wants to throw out.

Hi cjones4438! Welcome to the forum. There is a whole section on "Electronic Waste" that has just about every question you can think of already answered in some detail. Best recommendation I can give is to spend some time there reading. It will ease your work, increase your safety and maximize your returns. Also try to use punctuation marks. And if that isn't possible as it sometimes is not, longer spacing breaks between sentences. That will help clarify your questions and you can share your finds or solicit answers with more ease.

I would have to agree with JJinLV, and add that you should post a thread in the introduce yourself thread. Let us know a little bit about yourself and what you scrap.

And remember, the search bar is you friend. Many, if not almost any question that could be asked is there, pictures may be gone because of photobucket, but the words are there. There is over a ton of info in this whole forum, once you read it all, start over because you never know what you might have missed.

One other thing, I hope you have an outing for those CRT tubes once you break them down, from the sounds of it, you will be breaking them down.

Welcome, the CRT disposal will be dictated by where you live or work, some places are easier dealing with them than others in this country. And don't let a few CRT's discourage you from your holy grail, even if you need to pay to dispose of them! Post a few more times to be able to do pics 10 posts I think, (after all we don't want every person to be able to post goat pics!).

for the time being ill be storing the plastics, and crt's in a barn on my land then figure out disposal once they are all broken down...

Just be careful about the storing. I know the epa won't really bother the little guy, but a lot of states have rules about storing no more than a year on CRT's. If you have a landfill ban, read it. I have read my states landfill ban act 5 times in its entirety, not a good read but need to know the laws and how to interpret what they dictate. Nu-Life glass recently closed and is leaving the United State for good because of those type of restrictions.

By the way, welcome to the forum and best of luck, and know your local laws, besides just the knowledge you WILL gain here.

thanks for that tip i hadn't thought about there being laws against storage indoors like that, may have to check out the landfill and see what we can make happen with them.

The vacuum in CRTs makes them dangerous to store if they could get damaged there.

Release the pressure in them, I just grab the little board on the end of the tube with both hands and twist it a few times until it cracks there and I can hear the air whistle in.
Undo the two (ones made from Stainless steel) ring bands holding the (you call it a 'Motor') deflection coil onto the end of the tube first and loosen the board a bit because sometimes it sticks and you have to remove it later anyway.

To remove the glue on the Copper coil around the two C shaped bits of Ferrite in that coil, put them in a freezer overnight and then take it out and hit the glue with a hammer, it breaks up into small sand like bits, which makes a mess, but its quick and easy and leaves the Copper clean.
I then use tinsnips to cut around the Ferrite to cut the Copper coil off in prices, as one bundle.

i did manage last night to get unloaded and all most all the CPU pulled out including a couple of Pentium pro that were from a server and much larger than regular computer has. As of right now i have about 2 30 gallon barrels full between mother boards,and misc cards, and ram half a barrel worth of hard drives, and CPU, and 3/4 barrel of misc aluminum heat sinks and have only made it through about half the load cherry picking

The CRT's can go in the trash in Tucson, all the places that used to charge you a fee to recycle them have stopped taking them. Also the Goodwill will only take computer monitors no TV's for recycling. So check you local laws and donation centers.

I have not taken a CRT in 2 years but I have about 50 that need to harvested and properly disposed of , this will be my winter project , it will be a money loser but I did get paid to take care of these so I will eat the cost !!

I just hope you did not throw the cpu's in the barrel with other stuff that could break them. If you left them on the mobo's you might have a better chance to save them. You need to keep those in a separate tote, especially the ceramic ones. They will break pretty easy if heavier things are thrown on top of them. Separate everything as you are tearing down, that way things that should not break, won't.

absolutely not i have the barrels with mother boards, ram, and finger cards, then one with heat sinks, and a smaller tote box with the cpu's then the cases are all being loaded back onto the trailer as i go to go to the local yard as shred

well a little update ive hauled the shred steel, coated wires, and heat sinks off now and they brought $200 and change the cpu's, ram, and other boards are on fedex to ewasted hopefully this turns out real nice... and ive done been called about another load withing the next couple of weeks of the same or similar size
