all of the computers will be broken down, will have to think about the per lb thing though

if your supplier is not helping you break them down, separate parts or prepare them for shipping it would be best to pay by piece or pound, as soon as you show him what you make he will want more, but if all he did was help you get these items then pay and be done!

I buy per piece, $2 per PC. Last time I picked up I also got a large box of RAM. I didn't offer anything extra, just paid him the $2 per. I felt a bit guilty afterward but I was scraping the bucks together to get those 120 computers as it was.
They also really needed them gone. So I was doing them a service as they plan to convert the space into liquor store storage. Plus now they want me to call on them every three months rather than wait for their call every year to year and a half.
Copper, brass, and Leather. 3 of my favorite things.

I'd say it depends on what you are making off of them. Are they coming out of a computer repair shop and already picked of usable parts or are they coming from a business and generally complete.

I had the same situation happen to me. What I did was give him the information E-Wasted's web page and told him if he had any questions. The computer repair shop called me about 2 months later and asked me to do another pick up because they we're running out of room. So if the computer shop is small and your the only one picking up e-waste in your area. Let him go for it. Most computer shops make more money repairing than scrapping. just my 2 cents.

I would have to say that there are a lot of variables out there and Capital had the idea. I am in a area that I find I'm in competition with companies that charge for those pickups that you are willing to pay for. You have to remember that you are doing them a service of recycling them, I have told clients in the past that I don't buy any e-waste, and I still tell them that, it doesn't matter if they break things down or keep stuff from them or what. You are a valuable service to have the know-how on how to and where to recycle the stuff. Unless you are a scrapyard, I would tell that client, in a nice way, that I don't pay for the computers, be lucky I'm not a large corporate company or you would be paying me.
That e-waste that you pick up, you have to keep in mind that it is waste products and the end-user has to dispose of it properly. That's where you come in. I have a client that dishes me about 20 or so I7's every 4-6 months and they are only 3 years old, no payment, and now I have clients that are questioning why I'm free for data destruction and don't want to use my services.
You start showing that you can pay for the stuff, people start getting greedy and want more, next thing you know, you are broke. All I want to say is you best tread lightly, or you will not be making any money at all for your time spent. The only real way you might want to buy is in LARGE quantity, no less than say 20 FULL COMPLETE computers, and that's even questionable because mobo's have everything on board so for scrap, you don't have much.
Also, one other happening I had to deal with, and I used to pick up from a junk service and the owner was greedy. He was getting paid to go and pick up the stuff as garbage, then he wanted me to start paying him so I can pick it up at his locations and recycle it. Guess what, he shot himself in the foot and later I found out that he is paying for pick up of ewaste and he will not call me back because I told him that I would not pay him.
My policy is I will not pay for it, I will not charge you for it.

i hate when that happens- guys are already earning a living from their computer business etc and the stuff we pick up is basically useless to them.
now, when they realise u are making money out of it, they get greedy & want a cut out of what youre making.

thats why i never allow ppl to get the impression that im making good money from scrap.
its one thing if u have lots of ppl giving you huge amounts on regular basis- then u could even afford to pay some of them for it
but with most of us, its like this: today is a very good day & tmrw and the next entire week -things are bleak.
we dont have a stable income so we cant afford to be paying for scrap while were the ones doing most of the work & we dont even know if we will make enough to pay our bills for the month.
as Capital Recovery says- if u know theres nobody else in the area picking up & u know theres NO way this guy can attend to his business & still have time to strip & sort ewaste, give him Ewasted's details & tell him to handle his own ewaste.
he will soon realise its not worth the effort & his regular business is more profitable.
