Probably lower regulations in the U.S. so more goods would be produced here . That would keep some goods from being produced in places like China where more pollution occurs. If manufacturing really has any effect on climate change that has been changing even before much manufacturing has been taking place.

    Climate change effects ?

Duh ... it's a no brainer. I don't know why on earth people don't recognize the simple & straightforward solution to it all.

Reduce the global human population from 8 billion to 3 billion over the next 50 years.

Near as i can tell ... this is the only solution. Anything less is just a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

I dunno CD. I'm not sure that i put much stock in what the environmentalists, the politicians, and the scientists have to say.

I think i trust my own personal observations a whole lot more. I trust the stories handed down to me from my own grandfather about how life used to be here on this little island off the coast of Maine 140 years ago. I trust the stories about what life was like for my father growing up here during the Great Depression of the 1930's. I carry their living memories.

I'll tell ya man ... there have been an awful lot of changes between then and now. It's heartbreaking when i think about it because so much has been lost. Most people don't have any idea just how badly our natural resources have been depleted. We're one of the last remaining REAL fishing communities on the coast of Maine. All the rest have become parodies of their former selves that do the shuck & jive for the summer tourist trade.

I was talking with one of the local fishermen awhile back and he said: " Now I know what Custer's last stand must have been like."

What an ignominious end to our proud heritage, our culture, and our work ethic.

We have always worked hard. We worked hard to bring in massive hauls from the sea because there was always a market waiting to buy what we caught when we got back to the dock. There were all these hungry mouths out there in the world to be fed.

Our natural resources are all but played out ... but ... now there are more human mouths than ever to feed. They're breeding at an exponential rate.

The scientists that monitor our offshore waters tell us the the Gulf of Maine is warming faster than any other body of water in the world. The few remaining species of seafood that we do fish are gradually migrating North up into the cooler waters of Canada.

It's not looking so good for our small community at the end of the world. There are a lot of changes in the works.

Perhaps you were so wrapped up with " livin' the dream " that you didn't notice the changes going on all around you as well ????

Maybe you stuck your head in the sand and pretended that it wasn't happening ????

I remember when I was about 3 or 4 years old I saw a man that was dressed much the same as the man in the post above and he was holding a sign that said the end was near. Here it is years later and MANY still choose to believe the end is near. I myself believe that the end is near for all as we will die one day.

I have a very good understanding of this world and it's people as I'm 100% superstition free.

Superstition is what binds the minds of people and makes them blind to the truth behind the popular facades that hide what many choose to try and ignore.

You and I have been through this before as you try and place me in a box that makes you feel more comfortable.

Entertainment and distraction explains in two words just what this world is all about.

Money makes the world go round and round, and money is mostly a great illusion as is most all else.

Here it is going on the year 2023 and this world is still much the same as the past. Hungry people dreaming of being something they are not or will ever be as their love of fantasy and fiction keeps getting in the way.

If a person has a understanding of HOW "the LAW" works, they will understand much more beyond it.

nothing new under the sun when the many try and have their fun...........

Aww ... jeez ... please don't ask. Freeman's pond was one of the best fresh water resources here on the island in my grandfather's day. It served the entire downtown community. You could pump 500 gallons per minute and never put a dent in it. My dad used to fish that pond in the 1930's. The water was so clear you could see the bottom at a depth of 30 feet. My dad took me fishing there in the 1970's but the fish were all gone because the water chemistry has changed. I was there at the tail end of it in the late 90's. It had come to a point where the water quality was so poor that even our treatment & filtration plant wouldn't work anymore.

The pond is all but dead now. It's slowly turning into a bog.

Nowadays ... we have to drill through at least 100' of solid bedrock to find relatively clean drinking water. Most of the surface water wells are contaminated in some way or another.

At present ... our town is looking at a one million dollar hazardous material cleanup over the next year or so. Our forefathers ... in their infinite wisdom parked that dump site right above one of the best recharge areas for our underground aquifer. The hazardous material is showing up in the water of deep bedrock drilled wells up to half a mile away.

Ordinarily ... i wouldn't have any more of a clue than the next guy. The only thing makes me any different is that it's fallen on my shoulders to deal with these problems first hand over the years. I have no idea why. It was never in the plan. It's just the way things worked out.

Ohh dear ... you're rambling on again CD.

The guy with the sign ? I'm not that guy. I have no idea if the end is near or not.

Now ... there is the law and then there's THE LAW. If you understand THE LAW ... then reason dictates that THE LAW cannot be broken.

So ... please stop talking in riddles. Which law are you referring to ? The law of man -or- natural law ?

A simple & straightforward answer would be appreciated.

I posted the pic of that guy as it is what MANY believe in one way or another.

The question of climate change is much like most other LARGE questions.

The answer is VERY BIG when viewed from a distance.

Humans want to play make believe and pretend reality as that is what pleases.

We might have cell phones and space craft, but we still have humans that are not much different then thousands of years ago.

Do you wonder WHY the talk of superstition, fantasy and fiction bothers you so much?

As for the LAW. I was referring to ALL LAWS that people follow and believe in.

Simply put, the world is a very vague reality.

Those at the top run things and get the sheep to do what they wish and not realizing that they are sheep also.

    Just wearing crowns and such.

Ohh ... i'm very well aware that there is a subjective internal reality. Most probably ... there is some kind of objective external reality though none of us has the mental capability to comprehend it.

It would be something like an ant attempting to comprehend astrophysics.

The only pathway to knowing that which cannot be understood that i'm aware of is through direct knowledge.

I highly doubt that you are capable of it so let's please not go down that road.

It's just a game of thrones.

    You're getting off track though.

If you can quiet your internal dialogue for a time .... and simply observe the natural world around you .... you may begin to understand the inner workings of the grand design. Perhaps you will come to comprehend that there is a certain balance in nature.

For instance ... red squirrels may be in abundance one year but then a predator like an owl or a hawk will come in to reduce their numbers to more sustainable levels.

I've seen larger grey squirrels move in and displace the smaller red squirrels.

There's an intricate system of checks and balances in the natural world around us.

Most often ... when there are too many of one kind of thing ... something will emerge to bring those numbers down within sustainable levels. This is how our global ecosystem works.

    It's natural law. Comprendo ?

Dude ... please don't paint me with that brush. I'm not that kind. The enviro-nazis and the DEP don't like me very much because i'm the guy that calls them on their B.S.

In fact ... i kinda locked horns with the DEP just this afternoon over that million dollar hazardous material cleanup. That's a fine line to walk. You don't want em' to outright drop the hammer on you. On the other hand ... it's sometimes helpful to introduce the DEP inspector to some of the locals who are going to get a significant increase in their property tax next year.

Explain that they aren't very happy campers and that the DEP is starting to draw media attention to itself.

    ===============================

The ice age thing. I'm not well informed so i can only share what little i think i do know.

It's got to do with the ocean currents that run South to North and back again. Have you ever rigged up a thermosiphon ? I set up a heat exchanger on my wood stove years ago to heat an 80 gallon stone lined hot water storage tank. No moving parts. Works like a charm. Expect it to run trouble free for at least another 30 years.

Anyhow ... it's the same basic principle with the ocean currents. They circulate naturally due to the temperature differential between the cold (north) and the hot (south).

If the seawater is hot in the north and hot in the south ... the ocean currents stop circulating and you can get this weird climate flip thing.

That's the idea as i understand it. I don't know if it's sound reasoning or not. Never gave it much thought.

I suppose we will find out in due time. They say that the gulf of Maine is warming faster than any other body of water on earth. It's been a long time since we've had a REAL Maine winter with snow up to our eyewinkers.

LOL im just messing with you cause you commented on the acid rain. i wanted to see if you had a story about a ice age. i wasnt born yet when the whole coming ice age thing was out in the 70's which was obvious a hoax.

It's kool bro. I was just a teenager growing up in the city during the 70's. Wanted nothing more than spend more time out in the woods so i took off when i was sixteen and spent the summer of 76 backpacking around the State of Maine. Moved here full time a few years later. I've seen a lot of changes over the years.

I honestly don't know if the ice age thing was a hoax or not. I seem to remember a year when we had a significant volcanic eruption that spewed thousands of tons of ash into the upper atmosphere. That was a hard winter because so much sunlight was blocked out.

There was the year without summer. It happened back in 1816 when Indonesia's Mount Tambora exploded. Same/same but far worse.

I never gave it much more thought till a few years ago when i ran across a book written by Whitley Streiber called " The Key." I had a sedentary job at the time. Reading helped pass the day when things were slow during the dead of winter. I would never recommend it as a credible source. It's pretty far out there. On the other hand ... there might be something to it. I just don't know. He seems sincere enough in his recollection of events. I don't think he is trying to perpetuate a hoax though he could be suffering from mental illness. Still ...even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut.

I suppose one would have to judge for themselves.
