This past week I was given some old Optometry equipment and the finger boards on the inside are silver colored instead of gold. Anyone know what it might be? It wouldn't be solder would it?

they used to say it was silver, now they call it tin, i don't know. Silver has so many different ratings, nickel silver etc
I never really expected the "silver" on the fingers and the "silver" on the solders were of the same material

Nickel silver contains no silver.

tin doesn't have any silver in it either as far as i know. I was just adding another silver example, from belt buckle days. As far as the "silver" fingers, i'm not sure of either, they used to be called silver, now they're called tin. As far who "they" were, i didn't take any their names ; )
Actually I can't really remember exactly where all they were called silver, computer documentation, ebay, and parts suppliers(before ebay) i still recall buying new EDO "silver" memory, at quite a cost , among others. And then they all became known as tin in the more recent past

Simple solution would be to buy a set of acid tests, and drop a drop on the fingers.
