Question First time buying so I bought 2 275 gal fuel oil tanks ?

I've been eyeing up these two 2 275 gal. tanks for awhile and decided to talk to the owner they've been sitting in his field for 5+ years. I offered him 10 bucks a piece did I over pay for them? this is how I figured .05 a lb 300 lb 15 bucks yes this is my first time buying scrap may be my last lol.

Id try to sell them as is, if they are in good condition. We just made a hog roster out of one. I think they weigh quite a bit less than 300lbs. Ours looks sort of like this one. Recent image by hvacpope on Photobucket

We don't have rotis on ours. The one in the picture is just the closest picture I could find. oh you are right. The one weight I found on line was 290#. They always seemed lighter than that.

I'd have charged him $10 to haul them out of the field, you'll be lucky to break even, then you'll be out the gas money. Look at the big picture, it's just scrap, it ain't gold!

We don't pay for fuel tanks, but we take them. Then we cut a lid into them and store sorted scrap in them. Cast iron, aluminum, stainless, and whatever else. When full, off to the yard it goes. Some come back some don't.

Well turns out the tanks were his brothers I brought them bank and his sister in law gave me my money back (he got parkinson's and his mind is slipping) she apologized. She is going to talk to him since he also sold a couple of there trailers. In the end it was a relief to me I didn't have to sit on them and it freed up my trailer.
