    Trash Night

I had 2 overflowing trailer loads. When I was leaving one spot another scrapper in a truck arrived to take what I couldn't haul. He took more, but I feel pretty good about not using a drop of gasoline today. There is probably much more I missed, but the other chore of the evening is going home and taking out my trash. The next step is finding other neighborhoods with different trash nights. This is the best time of the year for scrapping, with pleasant weather and more daylight to see scrap. I've been wasting scrap days, but I can mark my calendar for next year.

There is a tradeoff I noticed while trying to plan a route. The older and poorer inner suburbs have nice straight streets. Up one and down the next makes a quick and efficient route. Newer and wealthier outer burbs have winding spiral messes with few or no through streets.

I heard that man! The newer subs are built to limit through traffic. (and look pretty from the air planes) In planning your routes check the city website, enviromental services page and sometimes you'll score a map highlighting your trashdays. A GPS can help you prevent from back tracking. Remember if your not outlooking your not going to find it. Also knock on doors. I saw a side by side fridge in someones garage today and I knocked on their door. He said take it and while your at it theirs a water heater and smoker in the back yard. He didn't have to ask twice. The moral is if you keep looking you'll make up the fuel cost in finds. Trust me I drive a 3/4 ton diesel.

Has anyone ran into troubles with law enforcement or the trash company while picking up on trash day?

When I was in Sarasota I only had a trailer, no truck. Getting into those suburban cul-de-sacs and turning around to get back out was a b****! Especially if a lot of cars were parked on- street!

Just to chime in about your comments on the variations of how towns cities are designed. The straight streets allow for easier viewing especially at intersections. However, there is more stopping and starting. The curved streets have less stopping. I try to follow patterns using right turns ( I know my neighborhoods by heart) eliminating stop signs when possible. It's all about coverage in these parts.

Once it hits the curb, it's public property around by me. But I have been stopped by police one time, called in by a resident, for driving slow with a suspicious amount of goodies in my truck in a neighborhood around 2am. Cops pulled up on me while I was knee deep in a pile of garage sale leftovers too. Fun times.

I was in a real rich area once and the police stopped me. Asked what I was doing, just driving around. Told me they had reports of unfamiliar car which matched my plates. Said they would "escort" back out of town. I could have argued, but what for? I left and went picking elsewhere.
