Bear, here is how I handle a typical hot tub.
    *ring ring*
    BG: Burly Guys, John speaking.
Customer: Hi, I have a hot tub I want gone. How much do you charge?

(Asking intelligent questions of the customer tells them you are a professional, that you have done this before, and that you know what your services are worth.)

BG: Well, first I have to know a few things. What city are you in? (Verifying it is a city I service, or if long distance, knowing how much extra to charge for travel.)
    Customer: City name.
Okay, we service that area. Is the hot tub drained, or is there still water in it? (They're usually empty.)
Customer responds. (I charge $50.00 to drain a tub.)
Is it disconnected from power and water?
Customer responds: (Usually they are disconnected, but I charge something if they are not.)
Is it sitting flat on something or recessed into a deck?
Customer responds. (I charge an extra 50 bucks if recessed.)
Is there anything in the way of me picking it up and carrying it out of your yard? (This is where you find out if they forgot to mention it was in their basement.)
Customer responds: I usually have three guys minimum on a hot tub and we roll it up into the truck. I charge an extra $50.00 or more if we have to cut it up.
I quote them the $350.00. Usually they will have to call me back, because no one wants to spend $350.00, but they usually find I am the best price. I make sure I get their name and number so I can follow up. I always follow up within 24 hours.
Sometimes if we are slow, I will ask: "Do you have one of our coupons?" Of course they don't or they would have said so. "Well we have a 10% off coupon right now, so we could take of 35 bucks and do it for $315.00 if we do it this week, but the coupon expires this week." That usually gets them to act.

At the job site: One guy cuts out the motor and pump for scrap while another starts cutting or breaking off the wooden casing. Someone else clears a path to the truck. Cut break lift schlep collect money leave go to dump scrap the scrappable parts.

That's a hot tub disposal beginning to end.
