Ok here we go...

Hi again! For some reason it wasn't letting me imbed the pictures but i was on my way out the door when i posted the last thread. I want to send my apologies to the admin staff for having to waste their time with my incorrect thread - it won't happen again.
I'm holding off on the pictures until i make sure that I am doing it correctly but for now I'll just start telling you all how it is going so far:

I got the ok from the owner of the material on friday mid morning so I let the 2 friends that I had offered the job of loading and driving the uhaul know that we were headed out in the morning around 630am. It's like a 2 hour drive to the place that I was renting the uhaul truck from and they didn't open until 930am so i couldn't leave any earlier. I didn't get to bed until 1230-1am trying to find coupons for the truck rental, maps and raid bug foggers. Needless to say I didn't get a much sleep as I would have hoped to get.

It was supposed to be 107degrees at the location of the material that day and i'm pretty sure that it was hotter than that! I found out that if you try to pay cash for a uhaul rental they require a $100 deposit that you get back not by the location that you turn the truck into but 6-8 weeks later in the form of a check from corporate. I had only received one of the two paychecks that i was supposed to get that friday and there was no room in the budget for a delay like that. Not with gas for two vehicles, paying my friends for the job that I hired them to do and meals while out and about. This deposit is waived if you pay with a credit or debit card so I started calling family members who had such things,

Finally got up to the property - the owner was super sweet and helpful. She even gave us wasp spray for the hornets that had nested in the pile. There were grasshoppers everwhere! It was crazy! I paid the owner $60 for all the stuff and 6 can of the spray, we went to work and that's when the nightmare started...

The suspense is killing me!

Soon after they started working, the friends i had hired started having attitudes and complaining and all sorts of stuff. The they stopped working, got in the u haul and turned the a/c on and just sat in there. They put a total of 30-45minutes of actual work in. I was paying them to do this because 1) I didn't want to do it and 2) because they needed the money. I have learned my lesson about hiring friends. I loaded a little and my boyfriend busted his hump for a bit trying to finish the job. I paid for the stuff and i didn't want to leave it there. After several compalints about how long it was taking my boyfriend and i decided to leave the uhaul at the property and head back home. They obvoiusly had done as much as they were going to do and it was way too hot for the already sunburned Julie to do anymore as well. My friends had moved from the uhaul to my car (after they did i heard a "it's hot in here" from across the field) I went over my game plan with the owner and we left. We stopped for lunch at subway and i bought their meal for them because they didn't have any money and I knew that they needed to eat. Then we drove home during which it magically became naptime for everyone except me. We get back and part ways and maybe 10 minutes at the most go by and i get a text message from them saying "do you think we could get some money for the day?" I almost fell over after reading it.

My boyfriend and i went back yesterday to try and get the rest of the material. It was 111 degrees on the themometer in the car and i'm pretty sure that it wasn't just because it was sitting in the sun. We drove all the way there, loaded as much as we could before it started to fall back out at us due to the 1st load acting as a large hill the new stuff could roll down. When i almost passed out from the heat we decided that we were done. We couldn't get all of it and now I am trying to get someone to go picck up the rest because it's my responsibility to make sure it's all gone.

The closest thing to a snake that I saw was when the lady's dog thought that one of the cords was one. It was cute the dog jumped away when she noticed it and then kept staring at it and circling it.

Just grasshoppers and wasps... which made for good use of my tennis racket bug zapper i just got!

During the course of the day yesterday i got 3 text messages asking me to pay them for their "work" from the day before. The way i see it: they owe me for a full day of work (yesterday), gas to drive back there(i think it's a total of 6.5-7 hours round trip), food/drinks, and several other things that are piling up. I wasn't able to turn in the truck today as it was set up in the contract (there's an additional charge for that of course) and I'm still waiting for the other stuff to keep rolling in. I spent my lunch today doing basic break down like metal cases and cords to take to the local scrap yard to hopfully offset the additional days charge... Grr just inane and costly things.

Now that we are past that part there is some neat stuff in there that I have seen! I'm pretty sure that all of these computer are older. A lot of the monitors that you will see in the pictures have computers attached/inside them. i have several of those old apple mouses that had the one square button (that took me back to when i used to play oregon trails in school!) I'm going back outside to my makeshift workarea when i lock up the office at 4 so i'll keep snapping pics as i go and post when i get that all figured out.

those old apple machines and mouse things might be worth much more than scrap. You might should make a list of some of those and post it on vintage computer forum, or at least search for them on ebay. Some Apples can be worth a fortune

Yeah I would investigate that route but all this stuff has been outside for who knows how long so i doubt that any of it is in working condition. A good portion of this stuff is apple stuff. Looks like some of it came from a school.

Well, I'd suggest you do. Sadly enough, I don't believe you'll ever make a return on this investment at scrap value

I hope so too ; ) That load, @ that distance, would be hard enough using one's own equipment. Factor in a U-haul truck rental, and hired help, you've got some serious expenses, and scrapping mostly monitors (from what I've seen of it ) doesn't provide a very substantial return
