I sent a message saying "we have been discussing that - How much do you think that you've earned?" (Morbid curiousity not only killed the cat it has done far worse) I got a quick reply of "$100.00" If I was standing I would've fallen over. WHAT?!? so after the shock value wore off a little I sent back "Can you give us a breakdown of where you came up with this?" That was an hour ago and I have yet to receive a reply. What i am really hoping to accomplish with this is to get them to actually think about what they are saying and then be able to justify/explain it to someone. I'm not a bad person - I'm just trying to be realistic about it. I honestly can't wait to hear their answer though considering their first one was so... I really can't find a word to describe it... interesting maybe?
Even if they did something for that 45 minutes, $100? I wished I was paid $100/hour...well when I am doing real estate deals I am, but that is besides the point.

I agree with olddude, calculate all the extra expense that you have occured because of them, and simply tell them that you owe them nothing for no work, since they cost you xx amount of dollars more than you expected due to laziness.

I can see your hesitation over saying anything at all to them, they are your friends, and you don't possibly want to loose that friendship. Will Julie, the harsh fact is, they are NOT your friends. Friends don't tell friends they will do a job and then complain every moment, and then leave their friend struggling, while you work your butt off.

Actually, I remember you saying that you bought them Subway for lunch. Well you know what, that is their PAY right there.

We get Subway a couple of times a week so I know the cost for 2 subs, so that is their pay.

Yep they're floppy drives... the super old kind! lol I was just basically throwing everything I needed to take apart that was smaller than a tower into that bucket. It was messing up my pallet organization to try to keep them on there.

I agree - I'm not really worried about salvaging the "friendship" i just don't like to get myself into a position where i get all mad and hulk out on them or something.

I plan on putting together an excel spread sheet when i get to work this morning... which i will also be adding to their bill because now i've had to take time at work to address the issue. Just kidding!

As for the remaining material, is it worth going back for? If not, might try a CL ad closer to the area for someone to go grab and cut your losses.
That is pretty much what I am planning on doing. We grabbed all if not the majority of the towers and printers that were there. I have 2 potential CL people that I've already been in contact with regarding the job. One pays for the stuff they pick up the other has the classic "free pick up" I'm trying to get the lady more money if possible. we'll see what happens

Ok I'll pencil you in for the next job and since I've known you for a while now let add lunch and dinner into the equation. lol

So they sent a message after I went to sleep saying "Is there a problem?" Well yeah i would have to say there is at bear minimum a discrepency in the numbers somewhere... I'm going to put my spread sheet together (thanks for the suggestion olddude!) and send it over with a little note that says "No problem at all. Please review, balance due immediately"

I would take the opportunity to teach them a life lesson. Tell them you were planning on paying them $10/ hr and figured they could have made $100, but since they elected to quit after 30 minutes they only earned $5 which was paid in the form of a sub sandwich. Point out that even though the sandwich was more than $5 that you will eat that cost along with all the additional expenses that you incurred by them not fullfilling their end of the deal.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

Option 1: Send them the spreadsheet, but only if they are smart enough to understand that the final amount is what they owe you, not what they are getting paid.

Option 2: Do what Rusty said.

About getting the stuff picked up - since you paid for it on ebay, you should be taking any extra money yourself. Right now you are minus on the deal - there is no need to pay twice for the same stuff.
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

This is better than a soap opera...can't wait to find out what happens next...Julie, I might take one of those floppy drives apart just to look at the circuit board...being that old they might be mid-grade quality, and worth fooling with.

I think this shows the basic difference between the members of this forum and those waiting on the government or Mommy and Daddy to provide. Your two friends demonstrate the entitlement mentality that seems to prevail on the news channels.

It is encouraging to read the many posts by younger members who have drive and ambition to go out and take risks as Julie has done. Mike

    Unofficial totals:

    Printers: 21

    Monitors: 37

    Towers: 57

I counted the older apple machines as towers since they have a motherboard in them...I still have an "other" category that I didn't get to yet.
