I believe, for now, I'm not going to do either. Although the lowering of the prices on everything wouldn't scare me from scrapping all together, I believe this one specific job/opportunity, should be best kept for when the prices go higher. In the meantime, I could work on creating a trailer. I could also spend some weekends collecting all of the scrap in one spot, to maximize my time for when I'm ready to go at it. On the weekends or when I come home I could spend time collecting in preparation.
My feeling is prices aren't going to really rebound in till there is snow on the ground in Maine, after the election.

That's not really an issue. It'll give me plenty of time to separate things correctly. A lot of the stuff has been sitting there for YEARS, so 5 months won't hurt anything! That's just my thought for now. It's not only based on the prices of the metal, but the other stuff we've discussed here, too.

As per the roll off topic, all I'm hearing is your doing all the work, minus the hauling, and not getting all the profit. Just my 2 cents worth. More work always means more money

If I were You I would start by renting a small " Outside Access " storage locker at a " Small Location " like Route 4 Self Storage in Turner , that way as You find items to scrap , Ex. Computer Towers , washer and drier's etc. You can stick them inside every night and Not Worry about them being stolen from your truck bed over night , and You might evan be able to quietly strip items there . Thats how I do it as My landlord would have a nutty at our rented duplex .
    Also watch Craig's List and Uncle Henry's for a used Class 3 hitch ( 3500 # Rating ) , ( A new Curt 2 in. hitch is about $ 161.95 from E-Trailer.com . )and just grab a trailer from U-Haul in Auburn when You need one ,
    ( A 5 X 8 Open trailer is $ 18.95 and the 6 X 12 is $ 29.95 and will allow You to tow 2,000 # with a S-10 )
I have rented from them for over 20 yrs. and I live in Mass. LOL. I put one on my daughters S-10 Blazer to tow U-Haul's and then our own trailer's . It was the only thing that saved her when an ******* talking on his phone rear ended her at a light without slowing down .

    2000 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup Trailer Hitch | etrailer.com ( I just ran the numbers for a 2000 S-10 )
    Ps
I started with ( 1 ) 10 X 20 , moved to ( 2 ) 10 X 20's then moved to a new place into ( 2 ) 12 X 30's that are 10 Ft. high and come with 24 Hr. access , Lights and .Elec. and are wired to the Police Station for $ 150 each . I am now down to just one and trying to keep it that way as I also have to pay $ 75. to store My trailers elsewhere .
Only a small portion of it is scrapping goodies , the rest is from our other two projects .

Really? Your decision, of course, but I'd have a hard time leaving all that free money laying around.

Of course, seems like with the lower prices you might be able to negotiate a more favorable split with dad.

Ummm I have a thought that may help you out. Does your father have some empty space on the back or in a far corner of his yard? If so, you could use that space to "store" your e-waste until you have enough to make the trip to the scrap yard. Although with boards , cpu's and other precious metal's I would probably store those inside, which I am thinking isn't an option for you. Just a thought. Good luck with your new business.

    Peace Out!

Thank you for sharing. Alot of people will learn from this thread.... that is if they have the patience to read through it all. I know alot of people who would love to be in your situation. The situation where you have an ambundance of scrap, in other words, an abundance of revenue and all in one location. I understand your dilemna and hope you the best of luck. My advice would be....
ask your dad if he could let you slide on the next 10 loads, stack your truck to the gills and take that revenue and go buy yourself a good trailer. your biggest problem is truck space, when majority of our problems are quantity. You have the quantity we wish we could have even if its only for half the profit, that just means you need to work twice as hard. If you are a true scrapper, hard work shold never be the issue. Once you have a trailer, you should be able to pay your dad back with 2 or 3 loads. Your idea about fliers and advertising is great, but why is it youre advertising? In order to build quantity correct? You already have that sitting in the palm of your hands. Good luck and keep us posted. Im sure we're all anxious to hear how you do.
