As I see prices drop I am thankful i had a chance to be a part of the massive flow of scrappers that did exist but it is slowing down at the yards I can feel the pinch also

As prices have dropped the call to pick up stuff has increased. Right now it's all about volume and niche markets. I'm in the proccess of putting together a trailer to do mobile compressor recycling. Time to hit the road while the iron is hot!
Have been getting good responses to my cl ads for computers. Every pickup I have done the last 7 days I have been asked do I take other electronics. After getting the computers i have been handed a camcorder, 5 vcrs, 5# bag of cellphones,2-8mm projectors, 25# of various extension cords and chistmas wires, 4 laptops and a metal tool box full of hand tools. Also the curb shopping has been very good lately as the volume of scrappers has decreased in my area. Havent seen the guy in the Cadi Escalade in two weeks but the hardcore guy in the 1980ish f150 is still going strong.

Agree with you Brasscatcher did a profitable school district cleanout last week. Today the financial department of the same county called me asking how much I charge(charge?) to take 80+ cell phones with accessories and other electronics. Seems the company they had been using raised their "disposal" price and when they found out I don't usually charge they were very happy to talk to me. When our market improves I don't think many of the customers you keep happy now will be jumping back to the another company. A great time for expansion and extra marketing, may take a little more work to make the same money but a great time grow.
Yes I see i am still finding items , yesterday i found 52 vac's , 12 tv's I see that I will have a possibly of more to find .and I see less hunters .
as a part timer I have been working longer and prepping more , I just got a huge load of old cords and wire , I have enough to strip from now til sept lol

I'm just getting into scrapping as something consistent and steady for me (part time), but the prices dropping doesn't scare me or hinder me at all.
If I've learned anything from the business and sales world is that when things are "bad", it just means more opportunity for those of us who work harder to find better ways. Even during the great depression when everyone in the country was losing money, there were still a bunch of people who profited.
I'm still getting calls almost daily! The prices aren't really hurting us that bad. Listen to deuce, he's a smart dude!

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Just Received a call from the man who handles my county's escrap. I had left him a card back in the fall, and he just now called me. He said that the company that has been handling the escrap closed down recently and he needs me...he said the only caveat is that I have to take everything What a predicament!!!!!!

Iv gotten more scrap since the prices have dropped...
I picked up a job about 30 hrs per week I have been painting and other stuff for this company Not a scrap job per say , but i figure i can still find it and not be desperate to sell off my , short - copper - Brass . Interesting though he gave me 60 pounds of lead he had laying around . And he will allow me to sell off some of his scrap black pipe and cast metal at a 50 % / 50 % split -
As I drive to work and drive home I look for items But i am not finding as many dumpsters cause I am putting 30 hrs towards the job . I can't be at 2 places at once .

These days I am more careful in dismantling and even saving screws as i see future value with the dense weight of the mini steel tid bits.
