    People are NUTS

Got a call today off a cl ad. Guy says he has 2 pallets of scrap laptops that he wants to sell. I say ok are they missing parts. Guy states they have no harddrives or batteries. I ask what is he looking to get out of them since they basically have only the mobos left in them. Get ready, are you ready, hope you are all sitting down..........guy says for the big pallet he would have to get around.......$40,000..... But the smaller pallet he would take $27,000. After I stopped laughing I said that I wouldn't even insult him with what I could offer. I also asked that if he got that price to please call me back and give me the number to whoever buys them.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” John Wayne-- The Shootist

Wow! I bet you never expected to be hit with a number in that range, or even remotely close to it! I've had some pretty ridiculous calls but this one tops them.

    Some people.

I was gonna offer .50 each figuring just getting the boards and screens and the rest going for scrap. That as the oddest call yet.

lol, wow, that guy is certifiable. Any idea how many are on a pallet? Just curious how much that comes out each. Just a guess, but I am thinking close to what a brand new one would be.

But hey, he seems like a nice guy, he was willing to go 27,000 on the other pallet. lol, some people are beyond insane.

I would have played with him a little and say I would only be able to offer 30 grand for both pallets.

I think he said the big pallet had like 400 and the small one had about 250...so he was looking for around 100 each. I was waiting for him to tell me if I take them all he could let them go for 60 grand...lol...what's certifiable is someone will probably pay him close to what he's looking for....not me.

I was just thinking. If he really thinks they're worth that much, do you think he would buy mne for $50 a piece? I'd even split it with you Brass. I'm always down to pay a finders fee.

The thing is it sounded like he was some kind of ewaste guy since he said that he got them from retailers. I was so taken back by what he was asking that I lost my train of thought and forgot to ask a few more questions to see what his angle was.
Scrap crazy-I still got his number maybe I will call him and see if he is a buyer. If he is then everyone can stop scrapping, buy every laptop at auction, yardsales or wherever and we can all retire...lmao. Of course olddude would be the first one I would hook up with this guy with the amount of stuff he's getting he wouldn't have to breakdown anything and could buy an island and name it scrappers paradise....a vacation spot for everyone here...lol

I agree with this. I would have HAD to haggle with the guy for a while, and then tell him what they're really worth and listen to his response.

Wow... Did you really laugh when he said that? If so, how did he react to it? If he believes that what he has is worth that much then i wouldn't think that dealing on CL would be the smartest thing. Don't they recommend to do cash transactions and in person? "Ok let me get into my back pocket and pull the $40,000 out of my stash that i keep on hand"

That's almost like the pallet of computers I bought. When they first started advertising on CL the going price was $450. for each pallet. I bought mine for $100. after them advertising for about 2-3 weeks. I pity the guy that got the last pallet for $100. there was only 27 on it and at least 5-6 were empty. haha

You'd have to have 20,000 in each pocket, or be like George Costanza with his massive wallet and back problems.
