Canned goods, the bottom of the pringles can, tin foil from last nights dinner, the metal cutter strip from the used up tin foil box, razor blades ... hehe

One time i went through the trash with my 11 yr old to show her how we were throwing away money, and actually found $0.72 in loose change. I wasnt expecting to find actual money.

Jose21, these are processors also known as CPU's they are on the motherboards in computers. On the mother board is an alluminum heat sink, take that off and under it is the CPU, lift the little lever up and the CPU will lift right out.

Here would be a good place to start; http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/disma...ification.html

I've been doing this actively for about 2 years now and I've found only one so far. Didn't realize at the time how rare they are. My load this week did have an AMD in it, should have kept it.

I normally scrap everything but I have a close bond with ceramic CPUs. If I collect anything, I guess you could say it's those. My last count I had 74. It's my way of hoarding gold. I'm saving them for a rainy day.

I just can't believe all the old computers i used to find pre scrap era, and all went to the curb. I had many 486's 386 286 XT AT BUT many pent pro types and many had the clock speed of 66 100 133 AMD's , had a dual processor 400 mhz that ran win NT, ah gota stop beating my self up over it I did manage to keep lots of mem and have about 50 computers to tear down as of now but the slowest oldie i have now might be a 166 mhz
    --------------------
I have some gold color chips some place that i did manage to save - just have to find them.

Not to change the subject but a while back I went and picked up a carload of low grade boards (TV) from a retired TV repairman. These are older transistor type, not tube, but as I'm pulling the usual off the boards, what do I spy??? A 3 legged transistor (flat) standing up like a little soldier with gold legs and back. I have to go back thru the boards to make sure I didn't miss any more, but back in the day gold was cheap and the better quality components had it on or in them. Don't just dismiss all the low grade stuff.

Also here is what you would think was a low grade board but if you look close you will see that the traces are gold and not copper. Look them over carefully before you just throw them in the shred pile.

Even true low grade is not really low grade as by me see they actually take it as copper bearing so if you spice it correctly with other CB you get good weight .

jose dont waste your time on the small stuff EVERYBODY can handle that material, buy a car trailer get an electric winch for it
go looking for cars ,clean up jobs, shops ,factory's places you'll find higher volumes of HEAVY scrap follow local pricing make relationships with the yards you sell to and forget about a 40.00 ceramic cpu that they don't make any more.there are millions of cars being made every year get after them AND DO NOT BE AFRAID TO PAY FOR SCRAP!

Nice find! I only found two out of about 250 towers and servers. Both were on dual socket boards but only had one CPU installed. I also got two more in a pile of CPU's I bought locally.
