Anyone ever scrap a Bridgeport mill?About how much is the scrap value on one???
I used to own one. I would say mostly ferrous only
Does it have the big 3 phase motor on it still? I'd first look into better than scrap by posting it on CL or similar.
I did one about a year ago
Guy had it in his garage and it just about cleared the door when we pulled it out, so about 6' 6" tall
Weighed in about 3000 pounds +/-
I was going to list on Craigs as it was a working unit
Then 1/2 way on the trailer, foot caught and it tipped over
So it went straight to Zion's
How much did you get for it?
I believe it was $230 a ton so that comes out to $345
Is it a series one or two? There is a big difference in weight. Series one I think the 3k lbs sounds about right, series two is more like 5-6k lbs if I remember right. Even if the machine is junk there are a lot of parts on it that are worth more than scrap. My father owns a machine shop and a good friend of mine rebuilds bridgeport mills. I have done some of that myself as well. Post some picks if you can.
Not sure exactly what series it is.How do you find that out?It does have a 3 phase motor
It should have a tag or plate on the front of the head that says. Generally speaking a series one is about 6 1/2ft tall and a series two is about a foot or two taller than that depending on how they are set up. Sometimes they have a spacer block under the ram, in that case a series one can be as tall as a series two. Horspower on the motor is another clue, I don't think they ever went over 1 1/2 horse on a series one. If it has a v-belt drive that is visible, going from the motor to the spindle it is a first generation series one, and probably the most likely thing to find laying around.
