Broke down an oscilloscope today

Had an HP oscilloscope sitting in the shed from a yard clean out I did about a month ago. Decided to take it apart since I never had done one before....I know prob worth more than scrap but I couldn't resist. Found some real interesting things. A gold plated mobo which had some gold EPROMs and ic chips, hand full of finger cards with heavy gold fingers, Motorola Transistors model 2n3055 that were attached to a large heat sink. The base on them are a non magnetic metal but i don't want to scratch them since i believe i can ebay them...any ideas on what it may be? The majority of the case is cast alum. Also found some finger cards that were not gold but a very shiny silver. I tried looking them up by number on the cards but had no luck. They are hp 08410-6037 and hp 08410-6018. Trying to find out if theses have silver fingers or some other metal maybe platnum? Crossing fingers. The gold connector ends are the heaviest I have ever seen. If anyone has ever tore one down any insight would be helpful. No results in the search trying to find info. Thanks.

Didn't think to do that when I get back to shed tomorrow I will see what I can be off the face plate.

pic 1 is a 4#block of stainless that the motorola transistors are attached to.

pic 2 is them in the block


pic 3 and 4 is the back and front of the gold plated motherboard

pic 5 id the gold connectors with a finger card soldered to one

pic 6 is the finger cards with the silver fingers(platinum maybe?)


pic 7,8,9 are gold plated finger cards

Will post more tomorrow of the chassis and numbers from the unit.

p.s. how do you post an actual picture into a post so it stays on here instead of having to link to photo bucket. you can all thank my wife for the pics since I have a short fuse when it comes to doing anything with pictures and computers...lol.

Cool I have an old Oscope in the garage that I got from an auction a few months back that I havnt torn apart yet. Now I cant wait

PTS hold off on that. Check out some prices on what they are going for. I may have shot myself in the foot. Am seeing some of the old ones listed on eBay for over $200.00 when I go to shed tomorrow and check out the model I am praying it wasn't one of those...lol...mine was an HP.

HEHE your talking to the dude who buys computer parts for more than scrap value and ebays them myself. Ill definitly check it out first I always do But the pics you showed definitly make my mouth water

I hear ya.. Lots of firsts for me with this stuff, Firts small gold ics,first gold board,Firts gold EPROM. I started another piece of test equiptment after the oscope today, forget what it is but have to finish it off tomorrow. Will post some more pics when I am done with them.

Yeah thats on my list of units never to pass up. Tons of goodies in them.

If you go back through the old threads I have pics of one being torn down..........I'm sure Mechanic will chime in with the link (LOL)

Thanks for the addition of the photo's. This thread reflects why I did the thread on old boat radar units. Those don't have as many boards but lots of Al. Mike.
