My fellow "magnet in the pocket" scrappers

So we took a couple of days vacation and in true fashion I took along my trusty magnet. (Heck you never know when it might come in handy, right?)

FYI Don't put your motel key card in the same pocket!

If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

Ha! I carried one in my pocket for awhile, it was extremely strong, and fit well against the back of my pocketknife. It would sometimes try to grab some metal going by, but when it started doing the grabbing my trailer moves, i had to find it a new home

I have put mine near my pc and cell both and it has yet to mess either one up.

However, you are correct, if you are not careful, bye bye information.

Your cell phone will also wipe a hotel key. I see it all the time at my wife's hotel. Folks set it next to their cell, will go out to the beach, dinner, etc come back an key no longer works. heh.

I don't know why it does, but it does!

Sirscrapalot - Doesn't keep his hotel key near his magnet or cell phone.

Knock the magnets off some old speakers, or use the hard drive magnets

I take old speakers and stick them to the sides and gates of the truck. They always go missing but they are free and quickly replaced.

I have a magnet I *used* to keep hanging from my purse. Until, I had to get a new casino card 5 times in one day before i figured out what was going on lol.

I have the mocrowave magnets all over my work bench and my cell is usually sitting around them and never had it mess with my phone yet (knock on wood)

I finally just put a round magnet on my keys. Keys stay away from wallet an cell phone, and I always know where its at. Plus I keep a couple of HD magnets in my workshop, and a variety of speaker magnets in my van, shop, office upstairs, and various other places. Handy things those speaker magnets. Specially the big ones...attach it to a stick/handle and watch it sweep all those little tiny screws, and other bits an pieces you'd miss. Makes cleaning up easy, and more for the shred/whatever bucket.

I have gotten to where I keep a magnet in the truck as well. For me, when I go to yard sales or thrift stores and see things like brass beds headboard/footboard for 10$ I want to know it's really brass before I buy it and take it to my yard. I have found lots of brass items at these places and for well below scrap value...

liberty, thats a great idea. I could screw a HD magnet on mine, never thought of that. I always have microwave magnets back there and lose them when they stick to scrap I toss in the bins lol.

Mechanic, I have one of those hanging in my truck, got it from my yard one time too! those are nice ones.

My yard gives out great magnets, or did, at least. I've got one in the cab, several in the mancave/scraproom, two in the bed of the truck... Unfortunately, the ones the yard gave out were perfect to fit in the "fifth pocket", but many times I didn't have it with me when I wish I did. Not sure who said it, but ALWAYS have a magnet with you! Went to go get some "new" pants from the thrift store, saw a heavy copper looking serving tray, didn't wanna buy it because I didn't have a magnet... Old speakers make for great magnets.

I wear my keys on my belt loop with a brass dog chain snap. I have a magnet on my keychain. Don't have to worry about wiping anything such as cards out since they stay in my wallet. Every now and then my fingernail clippers will stick to the magnet through my jeans. Other than that, I don't have no problems, and I always have it with me
