I'm not hauling scrap anywhere near what I use to be, the down turn in price is allowing me to acquire a nice stash, so when it does turn around, I'll own most of the scrap I'll be hauling. price went up last month and back down this month, so I'll just keep hoarding.Quote:

Not yet complete but pretty close. First one of these I've built in several years I think. Needed another trailer for the wife to use and this sounded easier then cleaning out my other one.

I've always been impressed with peoples knowledge and ability to make trailers and other things.
And it even has a nice looking spare.
You would be surprised at how many trailers I see on the side of the road with a flat and they don't have a spare tire.
Lets shoot some paint on that and get it looking good enough for the wife. Mike

Built me a new portable winch setup. Still got my 12k winch but often times it's rather slow and cumbersome but I bought a 4K winch for cheap off flea bay and went bout making a more portable setup.
Built a platform using 2" heavy wall square tubing and a piece of 8" channel iron

And welded a add receiver hitch to my trailer, pulled from a scrap pickup bout 4 years ago I knew I'd need that someday.

It's getting chain hooks welded to the channel iron as well, so I'm thinking between either a chain or a receiver hitch it can be where ever I need it.
Going to pickup a car with a flat tire tomorrow, the true test.
I recommend having a spare air tank-no more flats!

I must say I was rather impressed by my el cheapo 4,000 # today.
So granted this car isn't overly heavy, but still with front tires rubbing the fenders hardcore and a completely locked up rear tire, this winch cared absolutely ZERO bout of any that.

Nice work Tater. Once again I will have to borrow a few of your ideas. The idea of adding a smaller winch to your collection of tools is a great idea especially if you move the winch from one vehicle to the next.
I have a similar winch set up that allows me to move it between vehicles and trailers. I found it was so valuable that I added a receiver to the front of my one ton and 3/4 ton pickups to allow flexibility in deep snow and mud. These are bolt on so they can be removed to avoid pole vaulting in hills or gullies. Receiver hitches were already on the back of all of my trucks but sometimes the truck is facing in the wrong direction. Adding a platform for a battery and a building a snow anchor gives me confidence to get out of any situation in the Great Buffalo Commons. To me a winch is both a survival as well as scrapping tool.
The 12k winch is awesome if the car is lacking all 4 tires or rear end or it's upside down, but often times is way too much winch and way too slow. I'm betting this 4K winch will do 95% of what I ask of it without any complaints. Need a tilt bed so tires or not won't matter but that's a little ways off yet.Quote:

The tractor it handled quite well but this made it talk a bit. And since buying this and getting it home, it does run and has a pretty fresh mill under the hood. This baby will come in handy when scrap goes the right way. Was purchased for way less then $500 to boot.

Almost forgot to add I finished my winch setup off with chain hooks and some paint. I've already used it on my other trailer that lacks the receiver hitch and the hooks work like a charm. Heard rumbles of scrap goin up so stay tuned boys and girlsQuote:
