As the proud owner of two Firebirds... I endorse the name Firechicken all day long. On another note, I don't think I qualify as a hick.

Put new fenders on my old car trailer getting it ready to sell.

Center support I added to ease installation and stiffen up the fender.

    Finished product.

And an item I saved from the shred pile, bumper jack that's run using the ram from a cherry picker.

Any idea on when the scrap price will go back up ? It went down here and has been down since may . On the upside it has gotten easier to buy cars worth the money.

Street price has been flat lined here at $170 for at least 5 months.

It's starting to remind me of '08 with how these prices are, gona put many people in the poor house if the prices don't go up at least a little bit.

Just found out two major refineries in the Midwest are shut down for remodeling until the end of the year. The other item affecting our prices is limited international activity has forced the coasts to start moving metal to the middle of the country. My best guess is that we will not see relief until the start of 2015 and then the price will jump beyond our expectations. Prices dropped $ 40.00 a ton today around here because of these factors. I am getting liquid oxygen tanks and will be preparing metal until the price goes up. The other activity will be preparing non ferrous for sale because the market in this area has not sunk in this area.

P76- Typically where do you sell your steel, east of you about 40 miles?? I'll have to check in SxFalls tomorrow. If it dropped $40 here that's a 40% drop since last Saturday...

It's a war out there, that's for sure. And pat, appreciate the info as always. What happened to PSP ? Usually he'd have a pretty good insight as well.

Finally getting to move into my new work shop. I will miss my old chop shop but I'll own this one instead of renting it. It's built kinda weird but I think it'll suit my scraping and demo car building quite well. It's all attached but divided into 3 sections :

    Garage:

    Workshop:

    Storage :

    Hauled this off Saturday

On top top, two old demo cars chucked full of junk
On bottom over 5000 # of prepared iron

Got to love 8k axles and 14 ply tires.

Was tipping the scales at 20k with pickup and trailer !

Sold it for a crispy 300$ bill. Wished I had more mini-pickup beds in that good of shape but usually don't find em like that.

Thanks buddy. Been very little scrapping going on in there since I sold out for Christmas.

I have the feeling scrap will remain dead til gas hits 3$ a gallon again. Been bitter cold here so I haven't been collecting or torching much up. Don't want to burn up a bunch of gas and oxygen and have to wait 6 months to sell because the price is crap. Did pickup a "free" gas stove less than 2 blocks from the house couple weeks back other than that just building on demo cars.

Sold a bumper I got from a free scrap pickup last weekend. Got 200$ for a grill guard and bumper I paid nothing for. Not every scrap pile do you find a bumper and guard in good shape for a 2010 or newer pickup.

I have been working on equipment, building a shop, and just preparing for a rebound in prices as well. I have also been preparing a lot of heavy iron and leaving it in piles at various farms. It is easy to load and move a liquid oxygen tank and 100 lb. propane tank in the back of the truck compared to hauling trailers with skid steer and other equipment through snow drifts. Plan is when the roads clear, the price goes up, it will be time to turn and burn. Just hope I can remember where the piles are at.
