Today's load

1300 pounds total today, here's the breakdown:
1121 pounds steel shred @$.085
57 pounds "sheet aluminum" @ $.47
15 pounds "breakage" -- low grade boards @ $.16
12 pounds #2 copper @ $2.55
4 pounds "PC Wire 20%" @ $.50
10 pounds "Insulated copper 55%" @$.85
60 pounds Electric motors @ $.27
5 pounds #1 copper @ $2.70
4 pounds Dirty/Irony Stainless (oven elements) @ $.20
2 pounds "DIE CAST" @ $.18
6 pounds yellow brass @ $1.55
4 pounds "DIRTY BRASS" @ $.35

Total payday was $207. Not too bad for part time as I want-to-do-it work that is fun. This is probably about a month's accumulation of stuff.

I had the better part of a second load I could have sold but couldn't get it back to the yard in time. Probably another $60 worth of shred.

I'm in Metro Detroit, these prices were at GLE Scrap Metal.

Yeah, I'm breaking off any aluminum heatsinks and the flyback transformers as well as the bigger transformers/coils and selling those separate. The boards end up with cracks and holes, but it didn't matter a bit to these folks. I would have gotten 18¢/lb for the boards had I mailed them in to an e-waste recycler, but I would have lost money on the postage.

I wish we were in the 11¢/lb club for steel here like other places, it made a -$28 difference. Still, I'm happy with my payday. Couldn't earn a living without working a lot more, but this will pay the orthodontist bill!

Hey ggariepy, you take all that stuff off your boards how about the ic chips? Ewasted paid me 5.00 per lb for the ic chips off low grade boards.

Yeh not worth it to ship lowgrade..thats y im po'd I can only get 5 cents..o well..

Good to know happy..can u leave any bit of board on those??..

I haven't been taking IC chips off because they're not socketed; they're soldered directly to the board. Are you just prying them up off the board even leaving some of the legs behind?
