Any of you guys scrap magnesium?

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I was in here. Anyhow, I was taking apart a laptop today and the rear case is magnesium (it's marked so). I've never really run across it really for scrap, is it worth accumulating? I'm curious as to what it goes for and what it's worth.

I figure if they make laptops out of it, some of you escrappers must be doing something with it.

I'd guess it would go as aluminium, like mag wheels, they are called so 'cos they are magnesium wheels but sell as aluminium.

i found a bbq grill that had magnesium sides on it. Turned it in with cast alum. Bad idea for mag/alum grills as they caught fire and had to be recalled!

I took my aluminum cast in yesterday and they separated out a lawn mower deck and classified it as magnesium.

    Cast Al was $0.50

    Magnesium was $0.20
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

Weird, we get a 'special price' for motormower chassis. Dunno what it is but its a lot higher than Ali.

I will ask more about it next time I'm at the scrappers.

Die cast has a high amount of zinc in it. It usually has a greyer appearance than Al. If the piece has been chromed or plated it probably is die cast.
