Trick question? Looks like a propane tank. Why was it dumb? Didn't purge it first?
Your indeed correct, the only way my yard would take it is was with a 12x12 hole in it. It'd been emPty for years, filled it with water anyhow And opened it up. I don't believe torching on anything that use to hold explosive matter is too smart

So Taterjuice, how would you rate the "pucker factor" when you first put the torch to that? LOL!

my scrap yard takes them ,everytime i go i put out my cigarette cause i can smell the propane ,i told him not smart idea but what you gona do ..
I have cut way dumber stuff and lived to tell about it. To name a few fully charged hydraulic accumulators, locomotive cushions, locomotive shocks, anytime you cut a gas towmotor apart, gas/diesel/hydraulic fluid tanks etc. I am still typing away so I am still alive. I wish I was scared of something.
There are cementaries full of people who weren't scared, I wouldn't be getting all big headed for taking unneeded or dangerous risks. Jus saying man, seems like you always got to one up whatever anyone posts. I also work on split rim tires, aka widow makers, almost everyday at work.

If you have not taken it across the scale. You could list on CL someone that makes BBC pits will buy it. Will bring more money than scrap.
Good luck
