scrapping anecdotes

Part of the reason the big reason I started scrapping.

Tonight I had to go to the grocery store because I forgot one stinking can of green chiles to complete my Carnitas tacos. Contemplating whether I really needed them. I went to the store. As my radar for scrap is always on - I saw this pile in my neighborhood; its not even garbage night here all the scrappers are fighting over garbage a mile a way in another neighborhood. I love the fact that others see a pile of junk, I see a 20$ Bill. I paid for my dinner and then some just by being observant. I think all or most of you on this forum are the ones who understand what I mean. It's like a whole other world opened up when I started scrapping and I thinks its great.

Feel free to share your anecdote on scrapping.

Btw the carnitas turned out bueno.

Is that a bicycle tire on a lawnmower? Very interesting.

That's a nice bench. I'd keep it for some good free sitting.

I LOVE old iron benches I've saved and fixed up quite a few of them, none are ever the same it seems

The comparison I came to in my mind is about spare change. I pick up pennies when I find them on the sidewalk always have always will. I pick up any spare change I find and put it in a basket until I have enough then I cash in. Thats all I'm doing now just my spare change is a lot heavier and I find it more frequently. I also have to separate the change into a lot more buckets but its still the same thing.

That's a nice truck, I used to have a 72 ford pick up that looked like yours. Dose it have a strieght six in it? Those trailers made from a truck bed are great trailers, if they'er made right they are very balanced and you can move them around very easyly. Congrats on the good find both the load in the first pitcher and on the trailer.

While we are on the topic of " more than scrap value" ie- the mower the bench the lawn tools. Another anecdote if I may...I had a mad rush of mowers at the beginning of the summer. My partner, who is also a pretty good mechanic managed to salvage about 5 lawnmowers of the 15 or so I picked. We both have nice Toro self propelled mowers. 2 of his neighbors that were down on their luck also received rebuilt mowers. The others were scrapped as the engines were seized or were beyond worth fixing.

As far as the bench goes I will save it for a winter project when I'm slow. I've already picked about three of everything as far as yard tools go. Your welcome to them; just make a road trip.

Sunny sunday shed and garage clean outs. I did the same thing in my addition to the tune of 4 piles!!
