Why not make it a date! kinda... :)

Me and the girlfriend love going curb shopping together, gives us time alone to talk and its kinda enjoyable having someone with you! I do enjoy having my guy time going out and picking stuff up, but every now and then I bring her along to keep her interested (she hasn't asked me to get rid of my "junk" yet...) And we have fun doing it too.

I like to go to the scrap yard alone though... For obvious reasons

Does anyone else ever take their significant other out on scrap runs, curb shops or anythig like that?
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

No significant other to take, but I do take my 19yr old with me 3 days a week. He's emotionally impaired and it gives us some quality time away from home without him on the computer, video game or keeping himself locked in his room. It's nice to have time with him and just talk about anything and everything, something he won't do when he's home. I enjoy it and I think it's doing him some good, not to mention it gives me some help. He's even getting his buddy to come along a few days a week, which is great for me because they jump out and I just drive

I need to video it next time. We will get him all psyched up and he starts saying "ice cream and garbage picking". He is 4. It is too cool.

We will meander around until we hit the DQ, then meander back home a different direction.

When I lived closer to surburbans, my wife, son and I would go around together for trash days. I don't much do that anymore as it's a 30 min drive just to hit a neighborhood.

My wife does come to the scrap yard with me every now and then. We guess the total $ amount of what I am bringing in and if she's closer than me, she gets a $1.00.(keeps her interested enough, although I am sure one day she will try to raise the amount hehe) .. my son always gets the coins.

I created a monster last year when I took my wife to the yard on a brass and copper run. Got 468 Ever since then she is always asking me what I have to scrap so she can go shopping lol. Always wants me to empty out the garage, I like to wait for better prices and when I have more volume. But if it's over 100 bucks she gets eager to go. So pretty much now I gotta stash my good stuff. I can't tell ya where though.....

MY wife scraps about as much as I do. She knows the scale man at the non-ferrous scale and all three inspectors at the shred pile as well as I do. We have a blast scrapping together, but since we are working two separate jobs now, ( we worked together for the first 11 years we were married ) we don't get to scrap together as much as we used to. I have been Blessed with a job that allows me to work as many hours as I can, so going in early and coming home late leaves me with little time to scrap, but she gets up early and scraps in the late afternoons when her job allows.

I have to say, I miss scrapping with her quite a bit. We always had a blast doing it, whether we were curb shopping or cleaning out barns, sheds, garages or vacant homes, it just didn't matter , as long as we are together doing something, we have a blast.

Just couldn't turn down a full time job with benefits and lots of overtime and a new tungsten carbide seller, Scrapping is fun, but we were not making near as much per week as I am able to bring home now. So .... Alas, we had to do what we had to do ... sure do miss it though.

My girlfriend goes to the scrap yard with me when she can and she even wants to walk around and checkout the old cars and trucks. She's gotten used to me pulling over on trash nights. I'm a lucky guy.

On her days off she rides along with me or in the evenings when shes home after work and i spot something in the free section on craigslist shell ride along, she enjoys scrapping as much as i do...She likes riding in the old truck and i always ask her "do you got your scrapping eyes on" , as shes looking in the ditches and down side streets as i drive....Another set of eyes really helps ,on a number of times shes spotted items that i didnt see while driving! She even has her own set of gloves with her name and flowers/hearts written on them with a black sharpie....really a good way to spend time with each other with out blowing money doing something like the movies all the time.....it works for us and we enjoy it!
