Just a day in my life...

Was at the yard the other day and while dumping my metal I looked over and saw this guy.

Had a bed full of misc, along with quite a few aluminum cans. He was crouched over, popping each tab off, then tossing the can into the .08/lb pile.

Seems if you're going to go to the trouble of saving tabs, that you may as well cash in the cans at .60/lb or so, but what do I know.

I have no idea. The stuff I see in the shred pile really amaze me. I just wanna scream at people "you're throwing dollars on the ground to get dimes!"

Joke is really on him. He still believes that the tabs on the cans are worth more than regular aluminum. HAH. I can't believe that falicy is still believed.

Anyone that would wear sandals to a scrap yard can not be right in the noodle to begin with... I mean, just walking around your truck to unload could get you a nasty surprise !!!

I started wearing sandles, and quickly switched to my sneakers after that first time.

Kinda funny you say that. When I headed to the scale to weigh out, I saw him coming and noticed he had his seat belt on, in the yard, going 5 miles an hour. I'm all for safety, just thought it was odd to buckle up to go a few feet from the scrap pile to the scale.

Seriously...no really, seriously! I receive several calls a month asking what we pay for the tabs. I have people call thinking they were worth anywhere from $20 a lb. and one woman called about a month ago that was PO'ed that we wouldn't pay her $1 each!?!

If there really was that much value in them I would quit my job and become a full time beer drinker.

    BTW...I buy them as MLC.

Hey Parrot, do you really wear sneakers there? I won't go with anything less than my steel-toed shoes with the impenetrable soles, but that's just me and my love of keeping my feet intact.

Goofy lady. If a 12 pack of soda is around 4 to 6 bucks, why would the tabs alone sell for $12?

You buy the tabs as MLC? Had no idea there was copper in them.

I donate all my tabs to Johns Hopkins children hospital , not sure what they do with them , but it's helping the children and no amount of monetary gain could give me the same feeling .

There used to be a program here or still is that would take used tops from popcans to buy/make wheelchairs for the needy.

It's that time for the link again I see.

    snopes.com: Pull Tab Redemption Rumor

If your donating them to a charity for some other reason great. If not an you think they are going to dialysis then..read the link. Your intentions are good but it's an urban legend.

If for another cause please share. Till then I yank them off for crafty type folks. I know of no cause that takes the tabs..so be kind an enlighten me if you do for something other then the dialysis myth.

    Thanks!

Most of the schools around here collect them for the Ronald McDonald house once a year. It doesn't support dialysis, they are scrapped to help fund the costs of running the organization.
